Good composing. I'd like to be able to see the birds eye though. I think your camera may have metered for the floaty thing rather than metering for the bird.

Out of 30 or so shots I only have one with the facelit. Darn thing wouldn't cooperate. :D

I thought the silhouette was an artsy approach. :)

Thanks.

Manacsa...I really like this. I like the starkness of the black and red...and I don't mind the silhouette. The one thing I would suggest is to see how this might look with a slightly tighter crop...like a little off the top, and a little off the left. :) But that's totally a personal preference thing!

Wow, 30 or so shots? That's determination for you! :yesnod:

Either determination or amatuerism :D

A another digital file is free so why not :)

Thanks so much Emily. I'll probably be doing a tighter crop of this once I need to make my 8x10 so I'll cut it off where you suggest. :)

Interesting concept Eric...I like the composition although a tighter crop would have helped this image..I like the way you have the bird looking into the frame...On my monitor it looks a tad flat and I'd like to see some detail in the bird..

Thanks Jurgen. I'll most likely tighten the crop when I print it. I am very unsuccessful in photographing dark birds. I never get any details....since my exposure will produce silhouette anyhow.

I like how it is largely monochromatic with the splash of red.
I also think your composition is good too. I like how you composed it with the bird in the lower left section of the frame.
The bird facing towards the larger part of the frame is very effective.
My only negative comments would be that it seems either a little dark or could use a bump up in either contrast or saturation. I am not quite sure which.

Here's a modified version based on the suggestions received.

I cropped a little bit mostly from top and left. I hope it is not too tight.

I adjusted the levels and saturation a bit but still wanted to keep the "starkness of the black and red" as Emily mentioned.

Hope it works for you. Thanks :)

Congrats

I really like this great shot - my only critique which I'm sure someone picked up already is that I wish you could see some definition in his face.

Looks like I've missed a load of good shots - Oh Well

Thanks Roger. You can't miss anything here. I don't think anything gets deleted :p

I only have a couple of shots with the face but it's a totally different picture and not that great anyhow.

Great job, Eric, and congrats on the Sticky

You know me, I love harsh lighting. So I don't have any problems with the lack of detail in the face. In fact, I might even go so far as to suggest pushing it completely into sillouette - seriously.

You've been working hard - you're results are showing. Keep it up!
