Had a session using my 2x TC's i dont use them alot really, but after looking at Loupeys thread it prompted me to dig them out and give them another go.

Great posture of the bird in the last shot.

Again, your shots (and all the other excellent ones of other people) continue to give me a level to which I aspire.

(I just ordered a 1.4TC today)

Ok now tell me how long did it take you to train all your Birds :) All good captures Bev :)

Lookin' good! The second one seems sort of soft (contrast-wise).

These are much improved over your previous posts with your 2x. You are not shooting wide open any more, eh? As much as I hate the fact of shooting at f/8 or f/11 with the 70-200mm, you really have to coax the 2x combo to bring out the optimal image quality. The bokeh in your shots look similar to mine when using the same setup. Can you list your EXIF?

I know the quality still isn't up to par with what you're used to, Bev. But, really, there is a time and place for these things?

Now if I can only use ISO 400+ :( Time for me to start thinking of upgrading :( :(

Sure you are not a bird trainer as was mentioned??? Again, nice shooting, particularly that fourth image both in the bird capture and the bokeh.

I think we can very easily dub you, The Bird Queen. Your bird photo are allways top notch. These are no exception. Well done Bevb.

Let's not get carried away people, these are common backyard birds

These images are some of the best you've posted though! Keep them coming!

Doesn't matter what the species is the photography is top notch. Love the way she catches her subject in positions other than the standard bird book pose. Maybe I should have dubed you the, The Bird Nerd Queen.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments, im beginning to get to grips with the new camera and now starting to enjoy it.

No, im not a bird trainer! (But what an interesting idea.) but i spend alot of time in the garden with "Common Backyard Varieties"!! as i run my business from home, and between customers (dog groomer!) i grab the camera for a spell, and where i live thats all im blessed with, so they have to be my little subjects most of the time.

Paulnj hope to be going out for a photography only day tomorrow, so hope to come back with something a little more interesting for you.

Don't get me wrong, your images are GREAT

What people need to understand is the more common back yard birds get accustomed to humans. Florida scrub jays are ENDANGERED , yet they are very easy to photograph (even feeding in your hand). That doesn't make the image of the species any less valuable or amazing, but that should be taken into consideration

To be honest, your images are much better than mine!!!!

Now you are making me blush!! Custard or cream with that humble pie Paulnj?? (Only joking).
I fully understand regarding common back garden birds, and to be honest i get sick and tired of having to photograph them. I see some of the beautiful birds that yourself and others have in their part of the world (even on garden feeders) with their stunning colours and shapes and i go green!

As for my images are better than yours, i doubt that, but for you to say it is a huge compliment to me.:blush2:

Bev,

My previous avatar was a sugar pack so you can sugar coat my replies yourself

I don't sweeten up my replies and I say what I feel. I will admit that I don't tear into peoples imagery too often though.

Wow, Bev. I think the results of your 2x test are in. And they look good

Now mate that 2x onto a 300mm f/4L (or any other white prime lens longer and/or faster) and see what happens :)

Assuming the 2x will fit, why does the lens need to be white? Why not a 3rd party 300F2.8 or any "sharp" F4 or wider lens

Don't beieve that only an L lens is capable of sharp imagery with a 2x. I have used a 2x on a sigma 300F2.8 and gotten very sharp images.I have also seen SLIDES from a Sigma 500F4.5 /2x that blew away images from the 500f4.5L /2X with my scheider loupe :mad2:

Ah, true Paul. Stating only from my personal experience of not having handled/tested any 3rd party equipment. I've got the whole Canon brochure(s) memorized. However, don't have a clue what Sigma, Tamron, Tokina (are they even still around?), and group are offering :(

In any event, one can always paint anything white :D

I just don't want anyone to get the wrong impression that only a Canon L lens is worthy

Yeah, Nikon charges extra to paint their lenses light grey

Loupey, im going to be honest, i have never used a prime lense, started off with my first SLR 20D nearly 3 years ago with kit lense and then purchased the 75-300 f4.5 IS USM to now the 70-200L f2.8.
I would love to try a prime lense before i decide what lense to get later in the year.

I would love to try my 400mm L glass with a 2x teleconv. with the digital rebel, that would be like shooting with a 1280mm lens. wow... i need a teleconv.. these shots are great! I love how the exposure is spot on, and the focus is pin sharp! Great photos!

Thats a great lense you have there, its certainly on my wish list! id love to see some results with a TC on this lense so if you do get one, "please" post some images.

I've found the 2x TC too soft, and I can't use it on the 100-400 without losing AF.
Sure it works with the 70-200 to give me aother 400 :)
I think I have to buy a 300 or 400 prime and 1.4x TC next ... I was impressed with someone shooting in Jerez with 1DSmkII, 300mm f2.8 and 1.4xTC. he was getting great results.
