Just a little snapshot from the desert. A humanitarian doctor places water jugs out in the desert for migrants who get into trouble. He uses blue buckets and flags to help people spot them. I found one of them yesterday...

GB........I like the shot as a whole, but find the car a bit incongruous. I think it might be more dramatic with out anything but the bucket and flag.

yeah, maybe.. But how exciting can a barrel and flag be though? Maybe I should have gotten the "Agua" or "Water" text to be more visible. Better yet, wait for someone to come by and grab a jug of water (!)

I actually bumped into and helped a fellow once walking across the desert out there... He looked in pretty bad shape. But I never got his picture.

Hey there GB1, I agree with previous comments about the vehicle being in the shot. Might have been better without. The explanation of what this shot represents would have made it all a very strong story. Colors are great, shows the desert nicely, sky has definition. I like otherwise.

Isn't the desert the most incredible place? So harsh and unforgiving but so fragile at the same time.

This shot would stand without the car but the bit that really bugs me cause I can't make it out is the rail/pipeline type thing on the right of the photo. What is it?

CF, Roger - Here's a shot w/o the truck. I think it's missing something. If I happened accross some folks legitimately grabbing some water out of it, I think that would be better.

Roger, those are railroad tracks. I'm not sure what the history is on them but I'm 99% sure that no trains run on them anymore (would be interesting if they did!). First time I camped out in that area btw. It's open camping in Anza-Borrego and I think I've camped at about 8-10 different spots now. It's pretty quiet out there, esp in the summer w/ no one around.

GB, what a fascinating subject. I actually like this one better without the truck. I think the vehicle brings in too much civilization and removes the sense of isolation and desperation hinted at by the barrel and its purpose. I'd love to see a shot of one of these using a wider angle, with nothing around it but lonely desert...
