Don't know which. For the last several days I've been trying to capture these moths in flight. Difficult as heck. I'd see pairs drift by twirling in circles but haven't been able to get what I'm looking for.

This sequence is a compromise - one down while the other twirled around it.

All shot with 300mm f/4L with 36mm extension tube

f/8

Well captured !
I think Butterflies, not moths (clubbed antennae).
They look similar to the Small Whites [Pieris rapae] I see over here, and that looks like a pair.
Females have a subtle yellow tint to the upper fore- and hind-wings, paler than the underwing on the males.
Other clues?
Males usually emerge from pupae before the females, and the one flying has a tattered wing.
Females usually emerge later, and the one on the grass looks bright and fresh.
Besides, she looks like she's ready to mate.

Nice series. Nature has a lot to offer if we just take the time to sit and enjoy it. It's even more fun when we can turn a camera on it.

I agree with Paul and Larry, they are both correct!

As for the ID.... I can't help, but that sight I lunk you too will. You can get species that have been see....down to counties in your state :D

Thanks, Paul. I had to read your last sentence a couple times to get your drift - thanks again.

OT, yes I agree. I have this theory that there is not a square yard of earth on this planet that doesn't have something photogenic in it to a macro photographer. Sometimes, you just have to look closer or longer or both :)

PaulUK, that's some impressive attention to detail. I have to admit that I didn't notice many of those points! Thanks for reminding me to study my subjects more  I have a better side view of the one on the weed that I'll post tomorrow in the Butterfly/Moths thread.
