I was sent out to GPS some lots on Monday and found some snowy egrets in a field. So I grabbed the D200 and took a couple of grab shots of one of them eating. It was raining and I didn't want to take my D200 out in the rain, so I rolled down my window and took these from the truck.

Cool. Bad day for that (frog?), I guess. I think the bird is actually a cattle egret, though. They have that colored area on top that you can see in the third picture and you tend to find them in fields.

Yup that's a breeding plumage(faded) cattle egret alright. Snowy egrets have black bills

My bad!

I'm not really a birder you know...

;-)

I'm not sure if that was a toad or a leapord frog it was eating. But it made short work of it, whatever it was.

Thank you OT. These were grab shots for sure. When I saw the egret, I grabbed the D200, rolled down my window, and started shooting. I got two shots of it with the frog in it's mouth, and it was done. I don't know how it ate something that big, that quick. But it made short work of it's lunch!

I know a few of the birds around here. I know we have red tail hawks, and osprey's and some sort of small hawk (which I'm looking to get a photo of, so Paul can ID it for me). I can identify Mourning Doves, Crows, Blue Jays, Turkey Vultures, and some of the other "common" birds. But I am NOT a birder by any means.
