This poor soul lost control of his 1 week old boat & trailer- and this was the result! Luckily no one was hurt. :) It did get a lot of attention though!

It's always the brand new ones you have to watch out for... Fortunately they got this out of their system before hitting the water. :)

How did that happen? Did the trailer come off while driving? If so.... what a jackass!

I think so- like another view said, you really have to watch out for those new boat owners! :eek:

I was told that when the boat left the road and headed into the woods, it missed a woman walking on the sidewalk by about 15 feet. Now that could have been BAD. :(

Having dragged many a trailer and it is rediculous to here a trailer fell off a truck! Unless the receiver pulled away from the truck from improper installation, it's nearly impossible to get a NEW trailer to fall off a ball when properly put on. Now if the fool had ia boat that large on a ball mounted on his bumper, he needs to lose his license and the insurance co shouldn't pay anything IMHO.

I'm guessing that the boat wasn't secured very well on the trailer either. :rolleyes: Looks like a lot of things went wrong but fortunately nobody was hurt.

I had a horse trailer pop of the ball. I was told that the collar didn't need a safety bolt-- THAT was incorrect. It poped off on the gravel road from where we picked it up, not even 100 yards. I fixed that problem and have never ever have lost anything since.

Oh man! I would have been quite mad at that person! My brother has a cool trailer that self locks via a spring loaded sleeve, but it also has a secondary where the bolt goes through to lock it once more.

Safety chains should catch the trailer before the tongue reaches the ground, but most trailers come with cheap chains. Every trailer I have ever owned had over rated chains on them.

Btw.. I dragged a trailer 5 days a week for 20 years doing tree work, as a small engine mechanic and dragging the boat to the lake. A chipper(double axle..10, 800 pounds) once came off the hitch because somebody forgot the pin, but the chains kept it attached thank god. For a month we rechecked every chipper, trailer and stump grinder before moving out :wink:
