These don't follow any rules that I know of. Light, color, and the random pattern is all natural.

The red ones are beautiful. not sure I'd change a thing on those. The green leaves don't do much to appeal to me. and the overexposure at the top isn't easy on the eyes. The red one is definately the better of the two. I really like it.

It's funny, because I have the opposite feeling on these two. I prefer the leaves to the flowers here...mainly because the flowers seem to be backwards...like the ones that are in focus feel like they should not be, and where the eye is led (center), I feel like THOSE should be in focus. Just the way I'm seeing it...obviously, others may feel differently.
With the green shot...I like the lighting, and do agree that the brighter part is a bit too bright, but overall...I like the way the light comes through the leaves, and the patterns of the branches.

Thanks emily and Itilley.

I have a version where the center is focused. I'll post it for you when I get home.

I'll do some cropping later and get your opinions. Or should I say pruning??? :D

Thanks!

I'm with Emily. I like your comp on both images, but the green one is the one I prefer. The middle of the red one keeps dragging my eye in and I keep trying to refocus and can't. It's rather annoying.

But the green one seems to flow from both upper corners down to where the branches converge. Even though the light shining through is very bright, it's not blinding and you got great detail still in the branches. Very pretty.
