#3 & 4 are the best. 5 is a tad dark. #2 no ball. Three is the best....hope she doesn't bite her tounge though :) It seems every team has someone who looks like they are going to bite their tounge. One school has a pitcher who does bite his in every game!

Thanks guys
I shot these on an overcast day and used RAW instead of JPEG. The second pic I snapped too soon. The ball is in the original, but its about 6 feet away. Timing on Softball and baseball is way different than anything else. It seems for Basketball and Football you can anticipate a little, but you gotta time shots in Baseball and softball.

Scott,
Timing is everything, no matter what you are shooting, everything in photography really comes down to timing. A lot of practice will get your timing where you want it, but knowing the sports really well, watching a pitcher gets you the jump on the timing.

I am finding that I can see little moves, from the catcher flesing his glove to a batter rising up a little, and that gives me a que to snap the pic. I shoot the same kids all the time, so I can get used to what they do. Our Softball pitcher slapped her glove on her wind up, so i could shoot through the viewfinder alone. Baseball I shoot with both eyes open.
Do you use burst mode any? I tried it today and got a really good catch out of the three shots.

I always have the camera set for burst, however only use it if I think something big is going to happen, like the shot from the play at the plate the other night (thread HS Baseball) that turned out to be the winning play.
