I decided to bring my camera along out on the deck while reading a book today and this House Finch didn't seem at all bothered by my being kind of close to his feeding tube.

I do believe you have a purple finch here :) House finches aren't as robustly colored and have streaked flanks . Also house finches have a lighter area around the eye and greyish cheeks.
