Low key portrait...This one is an oldie...This 16x12 B/W print has been in my folio for about 15 years..It was originally shot on a Bronica ETRs/150mm f3.5 lens..Film stock was Ilford FP4...I copied the print with my Canon 350D/50mm f2.5 Compact Macro lens at full res..

I had to increase the contrast a tad with this image...I noticed in this forum my images lack "guts"...The original image looked fine in Photoshop..Is anyone else having the same problem???

Well, considering this still seems to be a work in progress I won't mention too much on the technicalities of the shot. The composition is good, the texture of the sweater (?) between the skin and the face is a great touch. One minor thing, if your going to have a picture like the third, that arm hair (?) is quite noticable...maybe take a route you did with the first shot.

On my monitor I can't see whats wrong with the first post, the contrast in the second does bring out a bit more hair against the dark background but the third is too much sharpening.

Other than that the composition is fine and the tones are lovely and really bring out the textures.

I really like the first two a lot- especially the first- but the sharpening in the third really misses for me. You've got a really nice exposure and good tones in the first two, and while the shot does look a little soft due to the scan quality, I think that's more forgivable than noticeable digital sharpening. I'd really like to see your original print, I'm sure it's very nice.

The first photo is the best of the three. The second is ok, but the last is way too much contrast. The reason I like the first photo is the detail and the loss of detail makes the other two just less of a photo.

Hmm...I honestly think the last two have too much contrast. Your tones seem a bit off, like you're not using as much range as you could be. The thing that's bugging me the most is how out of focus her face looks. It looks like you were going for a glamour shot here and it's kind of necessary to have the face in focus for a picture like that.
