I heard some guy said that the Canon 350D/Rebel XT is discontinuing at some dealers, and this perhaps indicates a new replacement coming?

I'm quite skeptical about this claim, isn't the XT only a year old and still selling like crazy? But since this guy refers it as the 350D and not RebelXT, I suspect he's in Europe or maybe Asia. It's true that here in N America sometimes we get products one year or more later than Asia. Can someone in Europe or Asia confirm this rumor?

the rebel xt is the 350D everywhere, thats its model, but because of its huge popularity, canon decided it would be cool to give it a whole name! the rebel! best yet, the XT!

but yes - the 350d and rebel xt are one in the same. i dont think theyre replacing it though - they would have announced something at pma 06 about it. they are replacing the 20d however...

Actually, they aren't replacing the 20D. It's still going to be available and they've lowered the price.

I just came back from PMA, the annual camera tradeshow. There was no mention of discontinuing the Rebel XT/350D. And even if they did, I don't think that should stop you from buying one, if you think it will fit your needs. We're well past the point of needing to wait for the next model of camera. The next one won't make as big of a difference as it did 3-4 years ago. If the Rebel XT will do what you need a digital SLR to do, then it will do it when the next camera comes out. Best buy now and get to taking pictures :)

If a new model is coming out, it likely won't be until September, when the biannual Photokina show takes place, in Germany.

The French magazines have been saying for some time that there might be a 3500D on the way. The Nikon D50 is 150 Euros cheaper than the 350D, which is quite a lot. When I walked around the Chinese New Year celebrations in Paris last month I counted the DSLR's that I saw - 12 Nikon D50/D70 and only 4 Canon 300D/350D.

If there is a 3500D it will probably be almost the same as the 350D, but cheaper. It seems very unlikely there is a new sensor ready (they would have put it in the 30D).
