Very neat picture!! I love the color and textures! My guess would be either an old artichoke, or an old pineapple....I am probably WAY off but that was the first thing that came to mind.

Pinecone? Bark?

Besides not knowing what it is, I love the texture, though the colors/brightness bother me a tad. Did you use a flash? The shot appears to be a little too "abrupt" and harsh in colors.

I love the idea, though maybe a little post processing on the colors,
