I am a few days late on this. I don't where my head was, but better late than never I always say!

I have taken the ideas of a few people that have posted to the "Photo Project Suggestions" (http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=16252)thread and put them togther to come up with this months topic:

YOUR TOWN

I want to see where you live. What things make your town unique? What places hold special meaning to you? Does your town have something we would all recognize? Whatever "Your Town" means to you, post it here!

Well, I am going to just jump right in here.

This is an older image. I will be getting out for some new stuff soon though.

My Town Is Jacksonville Florida. It is a beautiful city which I love very much. It has a lot going for it, and hopfully I will be able to show some of that through my photos.

Downtown Jacksonville. This is looking at the North bank of the St. Johns River from the South bank.

I'll have to go cruising around this week to grab some nice shots. But let's kick it off here with Milton, ON! A small growing community.

I am not much of an architectural photographer, but I was there and I thought it was interesting. This is the Cummer Gallery of Art near downtown Jacksonville, Fl. Its a wonderful museum with pieces ranging from Picaso to Herb Ritz. It also has a beautiful English garden looking out over the St. Johns River and the downtown skyline.

I finally had some decent (temperature wise) weather yesterday. This is the Kalamazoo Regional Psychiatric Hospital---a city landmark for years. The tower is what makes this a distinctive part of the landscape.

I was in a cowboy bar in Ogden about 10 years ago. I think it was called the Tamarac Saloon. Boy did I feel out of place. You know that scene in the movies where someone walks into a bar and everyone, including the band, stops and looks a them. That's what I felt like. I guess I needed a cowboy hat and a 10" belt buckle. :D I still had a good time tho and thats the important part. :)

Here's this morning's sunrise over the malthouse just north of town (Jefferson, Wisconsin). Built and operated for many years by the Ladish Malting Company, it supplied the Milwaukee breweries with much of their malted barley. It was recently purchased and then closed down by the Cargill Co. putting people out of work. Now some people want to buy it and produce ethanol and aquaculture fish there.

I guess these may fit, although it isn't a shot of a city. However, this is what my city is known for and the purpose of our biggest fetival of the year. We are the "cherry blossom capitol of the world". EDIT: odd, all the pics aren't showing up.. owell.

I got a book of Henri Cartier-Bresson's photos of Paris, called "A Propos de Paris." The beginning includes an introduction written by Vera Feyder, called, "Henri Cartier-Bresson: Unshootable Views." The photos in this book are fantastic. Just when I was starting to think, "I'd have better photos if I lived some place like Paris," I read a quote from Vera's passage that changed my mind:

"The most beautiful city in the world can only give what she has; but all that she offers is on view, for anyone who knows how to see her, take her, and love her."

Unfortunately I don't have any worthwhile photos of Austin to share, but I assure you I will be taking some soon.

Who knew there were so many here with some ties to Utah? I always find it interesting when I meet people from all over the place who know someone that is from around my home town. When I lived in Prague from 1995-1997, I met a guy in a grocery store there that went to elementary, jr. high and high school with my mom. And just in February when my wife and I returned there for a vacation, she saw someone that she went to high school with as well. It really is a small world these days.

BTW thanks for all the nice comments about Ogden and the surrounding areas. They make me glad.

Just for kicks, here is one from the kayak park on the Weber river near downtown.

So true! About 10 years ago I was in Austria and met a girl from Australia. A few days later I ran into her again in Prauge. I'm a little surprised if I don't run into someone I know when I'm on vacation or away from home.

Well if Canadians could build them to spec then the Americans could knock them down properly, which, I am quite sure, Is what they attempted to do.

:p

Yes that's what was attempted. But one of the charges didn't go off which prevented one of the main support colums under the silos from fragging right so it gave them somthing to lean on.

The plan was to have the silos take out the rest of the main plant in the fall.

I used to work at the Consumers plant from 1990-6. Good memories both of the people and the job itself... sorry to see this site the way it is now, but who can complain about 'change' :)

Anyways I drove down there yesterday morning and shot about 400 pics of the place. Was hoping they would be resuming demo operations at that time but seems that they're going to use the swinging balls to bring the rest of it apart :(

Anyways.... a few pics.
