I just wanted to say hi to everybody. Until recently I was an avid Minolta shooter, but just after Christmas my Maxxum 7 and all of my other gear was stolen. Thankfully Uncle Sam and my university have come to the rescue via an eduactional tax credit resulting in huge tax return. A month ago it would have been a no-brainer to replace my 7 with a Maxxum 7D, but with Minolta bailing out, I have decided to switch to a company I can count on and thus have come to Nikon. To make a long story short (too late :) ), my refund was depositied in my bank account last night so I ordered a D70s, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, Nikon 50mm f/1.8, and various odds and ends from B&H this morning. I can't wait till the UPS guy shows up tomorrow so I can start shooting. I'll make sure to post some pics as soon as I can.

Cheers
-Jason

Welcome to the club, Jason! You'll love the D70s once you get the hang of it. You may want to try a custom curve, too. I love my D70 to death and I actually refused to sell it until a good friend offered to buy it- it's so important to me I just wouldn't risk letting anyone I didn't know have it. I hope that you'll develop such a bond (ok maybe not that extreme) with your new camera. Do yourself a favor though: read up on a review that goes into detail on some or all of the menu settings and pick some you think you would like BEFORE you shoot the first shot- and keep it OFF auto mode (use P-program to start with) and take the first shot of a static subject outside in good light. That way not much can go wrong :)

Welcome Jason, I too am a new Nikonian. I've got the coolpix 8400. Here is a link to another thread you might enjoy. The link there is for the Nikon Digitutor. http://forums.photographyreview.com/showthread.php?t=17754 . You probably won't need the "photography" part, but it should give you some great points about your D70s. Look forward to your first shots.

Welcome to the world of Nikon. I bought my first Nikon in 1972 and have shot nothing but Nikon since. They are dependable and well built. Hope you have as long a relatinonship with Nikon as I have. Just remember don't neglect the glass. Alwsy use good glass on your Nikon and It will not let you down.
