I say “problems?” because I’m not sure, I’ve tried everything without success. Hope somebody can help me.

The AEL/AFL bottom doesn’t work at all:

- In playback mode it should protect a picture, but pushing it makes no effect at all…

- In photography mode, I use Simple Autofocus in mode 2. That means that pushing AEL should lock exposure, but it doesn’t. I know because the symbol AEL in the viewfinder does not lit, and besides, the camera measures exposure again…

Do I have something misconfigurated? Somebody has had the same problem?

Thanks in advance.

I will be getting my new E-500 tomorrow or the next day. I will check this issue out on mine and post my experience.

It seems you may have to program this button??? I am not sure but check page 121 of the reference manual?? I am going to try a read as much as I can before my camera arrives....

Does the camera come with this manual or do I need to print one out? And does it come with the remote? If not I am going to order one

Thanks Greg.. I was wondering how to use these setting changes quicker.

I guess it helps to read the manual lol.

I seem to remember mine working when I was being taught the basics of DSLR photography by a friend of mine.. but when I tried it after reading this thread it didn't work anymore... must be from teh firmware update that they did while it was in for repairs.

Seems I'll be taking it in for repairs again since it now is SUPER noisy at all ISO settings. It was never that bad before but now it is terrible, regardless of which lens I use.

It seems like everytime I ever UPDATE any filmware or software I always wind up having trouble. As they say "If it works don't fix it." When I get my camera if it works I doubt I'll do any updates until it isn't working.

Hi, ESTOERP, maybe I can help. I am a beginner DSLR user and dont know much, but I have played around extensivly with the E-500 which I love. I did notice something with the AEL button while taking a picture, though I cant help you with using it to lock the pictures in playback mode.

This may be what is happening to you or it may not. When you press the AEL/AFL button it only acts as a momentary button. Meaning you need to hold it down for it to lock exposure? If this is the case, when you press the button and hold it, the AEL light will light in the view finder and dissaprear when you let it go.

This was bugging me when I was playing with the features because the manual clearly says it will lock the exposure. Anyways, while digging though the settings I came across this : AEL / AFL MEMO page 123. Default is off. I turned it on, and now when I meter off something and get the exposure I want, and press the AEL button, it actually locks it. WOOHOO.

So, if this helps you here, great. if not, sorry I dont know what else to say.
