Hi All,

I need some help in choosing a SD card for the Canon A610 card which I just ordered.

The video mode is important to me as I want to take some small time videos of my 6 months old son. A610 takes videos at 640x480 at 30fps. I want to know what is the minimum write speed required for this mode to have uninterupted shooting till the memory card fills up. I believe if the memory card is not fast enough, there are delays in the shooting as the camera is writing data to the card.

I am planning to go for either 512MB or 1GB card.

Also, any recommendations as to which brand and where I can buy it from will be great.

Thanx,
Vikas

Hi, Not sure what the write speed is on that camera, however, according to a Canon rep I spoke to recently he said Kingston cards are the most reliable at this time. I however use both San Diske and Lexar cards.

I saw the following information in the manual for the camera.

640x480 at 30 fps - 1980 KB/sec. Apart from this, the read/write speed is not specified.

The manual also says -
Recommended Memory card -
Super high speed SDC-512MSH memory card.
At this card, the camera can store 4 mins and 9 sec of video at 640x480 30 fps.

The problem is that apart from this particular card, there is no other info specified like card speed or data transfer speed etc. I coudn't find any info on google or canon site.

I dont want to go for an overkill as its just a wastage of money. e.g. if a 60X card is enough, no point going for a 133X card.

I am planning to go for a 1GB card.
