Wish I were there, instead of here in wet rainy and cold Indiana.... JS SmartWombat 01-11-2006, 02:59 AM Having fun? Yes, defnintely. But problems with CFn:4 setting the AF on the AEL button. Basically, it doesn't lock onto moving targets, or even stationary ones particularly well :( Using the shutter release for AF for some reason works far more reliably. That's on both the 1D and the 20D so it's likely to be operator error, perhaps just not pressing hard enough. However it was enough for me to lose most of yesterday with poor quality images. JSPhoto 01-11-2006, 03:33 AM Sorry to hear that SW, I never noticed any problem pushing that button myself but I do not have any feeling in my right hand to tell how hard I am pressing it so I can't help on that. JS ACArmstrong 01-11-2006, 06:14 AM I love the third image. The light and composition is excellent. Looks like a brochure. I have the same problem on my 10d when I shoot fast-paced hockey. It's like it's just not fast enough to keep up. I love using that backfocus button because it is more steady than the shutter focus, but it just doesn't react the same in AI Servo as using the shutter. I'm shooting almost exclusively in One Shot because of it. JSPhoto 01-11-2006, 06:41 AM AC, Unfortunately the 10D AF is really slow, especially compared to the 1D. The 300D and 10D have the exact same electronics and it is so different than the 1D I am surprised. Also they have serious shutter lag which will affect the focus at speed, but it can cause some very interesting shots :) JS SmartWombat 01-11-2006, 07:31 AM I haven't dared set the 1D mk II N into fast mode yet. Unreliable, but fast :) The shutter lag is artifically lengthened to make it always the same (so you can learn to anticipate it) but there is a custom function to turn that off. So that sometimes it works faster. That's the kind of thing as a programmer I'd put in, so that in MF and Manual it would shoot as fast as possible. SmartWombat 01-11-2006, 07:33 AM Thank you Andy. Looking at it critically, I should have cropped out the outside of the door frame at the top left. One pace forward would have done it in camera. Rather than leaving it to PS touch-up later. The spaceship over the track is just a snapshot - I have to find a compositional angle on that. I will have a Mark IIn - oh yes, it will be mine - bwahahahahahahahahaha! |
