View Full Version : Look where I've been...
schrackman 01-04-2006, 09:31 PM It's been a real busy holiday this year, I finally got time to play with some of the pictures I've taken. Let's see, we visited California Adventures, San Diego, La Jolla, and Sea World, in that order. Hope you enjoy (more to follow).
Oh, forgot to mention, that's Shamu in pic #4. He's one BIG killer whale.
schrackman 01-04-2006, 09:31 PM s'more critters...
schrackman 01-04-2006, 09:38 PM and people critters...the first is my 15 year old daughter Adrienne, and the second, third and fourth are of a few of our younger church members. The first three shot at Point Loma and the last at one of our church member's house in San Diego.
Knight 01-05-2006, 02:22 AM Superb Photos of the highest quality Schrackman :) Cant choose a Fav love them all ....:)
Old Timer 01-05-2006, 05:00 AM A real treat to view these. Loved the whole bunch. You sure gave us a wide range of photo skills to digest here.
swmdrayfan 01-05-2006, 05:20 AM Excellent work.:)
bmadau 01-05-2006, 07:42 AM I have to agree. Those are some fantastic photos. Every one of those would look great framed and hanging on a wall somewhere.
My wife is working on a 2005 family yearbook. She's organized a heap of potential candidates for a photo book to be printed of all the places we been to and things we've done in 2005. Looking back, we had a pretty full year.
masdog 01-05-2006, 08:23 AM Wow. These are all excellent, Schrackman. How did you set up for the first one and nail the exposure?
Asylum Steve 01-05-2006, 08:59 AM They're all good, Ray, but I love that third one (seawall and gulls). Absolutely perfect composition.
Nice wide shot with a rasied horizon. The manmade seawall jutting in from the side of the frame disrupting the natural scenery with earthtone color, the shoreline running front to back at an angle to pull you into the shot. The static while dots of the gulls in shade playing off the crashing white wave in sunlight.
It all comes together rather wonderfully...
schrackman 01-05-2006, 09:00 AM Thanks everyone! Glad you enjoyed the photos. These were just a few out of a couple hundred that I took. That last one looks a bit washed out, but the original photo shows better saturation. For some reason that happens with my jpegs sometimes. They look fine in photoshop then look somewhat washed out when I post them here.
masdog,
The first photo was handheld using program mode on my digital Rebel with a Sigma 17-40 mm lens. Of course I rested up against a handrail to keep it from shaking.
schrackman 01-05-2006, 09:10 AM Thanks Steve. This is perhaps one of my favorites shots too. It was taken in La Jolla, and I got up early to catch the soft morning sunlight which was being diffused through the cloud layer. Here's another early morning shot but I'm somewhat iffy about the composition on this one.

Great scenic feel, but I think a bit too symmetrical. The horizon is in the center of the frame, and the shore and sea equally divide the lower half. The pic feels segmented rather than flowing.
Maybe a slight camera move up or down and left or right would make it stronger...
Beautiful photos - all of them are interesting, good composition, color, sharp.
My favorite is the 3rd one in the 2nd set. I love the seal looking right at the camera! What a great capture.

mtbbrian 01-06-2006, 07:05 AM Your usual greatness Ray!

It's hard to pick just one.
