hi all

i recently purchased a nikon D70s and used it extensivly on my trip to europe.

i was not very happy with the results of my photoagraphy. Many of my shots (and there were thousands) appear dark. The majority of the shots i took had people in the for ground with a tourist site in the back ground. To allow for my lack of skill i quite often bracketed the lighting so i obtained two photos one with more light it in. Even the over exposed shot wasnt that exciting. Can any one who knows the D70s give any tips on this type of photoagraphy.

regards
jon

Hi and welcome - I don't think this is a D70s issue however. I'm assuming that the people in the foreground are the dark part of the exposure, and if this is the case fill flash would have helped a lot. Fill flash is using a flash in bright lighting conditions to "fill in" the shadows. The D70s has a built-in flash and it would work pretty well for a situation like this.

you also have to remember that an SLR allows/requires you to do much of the work to figure out how to expose, sharpen, color balance. You can do this in the camera as you set up a shot or afterwords using software (to some extent, but not as a cure all). slr's are made to give the user maximum flexibility and choice!

are you using any software to post process the shots?
