View Full Version : Liking the Camera Test Page
racingpinarello 04-08-2004, 07:38 AM Hey John,
I really think that the Camera Test Forum is a great asset. I found the test samples to be very helpful.
I am looking forward to seeing more cameras. When I get the MarkII I will bring it by your "lab".

Photo-John 04-08-2004, 10:38 AM Thanks for the feedback, Loren. I've been waiting for someone to comment. I want to keep the tests relatively simple. But if there are things people would like to see added, please let me know. I know I need to add a "Discuss" link so people can ask questions or add their thoughts.
The Pentax test is almost ready to go. I decided I wanted to reshoot the studio images so that set it back a bit. I also have the Olympus 5060 and there's an HP camera sitting next to me just waiting for me to have time to play with it. And I'm on the list for lost more. I think Uwe might share some of what he gets with me, too.
If anyone else has anything to say, please share. I really want to know what you think.
Thanks-
bmadau 04-08-2004, 12:44 PM I like it too, seeing how the first camera tested is my camera! :)
Sebastian 04-08-2004, 02:18 PM PJ,
I think I'll have to go against the grain here. I question the need to do this when there are sites out there that already are well established at this, and do a much more thorough job.
I guess I just wonder if it's worthwhile to be using resources to compete against such heavyweights as Phil Askey.
BUT, I do see the value in having everything on one site.
Since this is the feedback forum I thought I'd share my thoughts on the matter. :)
ichiu 04-08-2004, 03:00 PM Hi John,
I think it's great that you've added a camera test page to the site. Even though there may be more comprehensive and "scientific" tests out there, people are always looking for resources that will help them make choices about equipment. .... or validate their purchases.

Photo-John 04-08-2004, 04:07 PM My intention is not to copy or compete with other professional review sites. My real goal is to supply something different. That something different is the controlled studio testing. I'm not aware of anyone else doing anything as controlled and objective as the studio shots I've done. And since I have the cameras, I might as well use them and share a bit my impressions and the photos that result. But I don't want to get into the business of teling people what they should and shouldn't buy. I'll leave that up to the community and the user reviews here.
Going to Sea Otter this year?
Photo-John 04-08-2004, 04:09 PM Sebastian-
I don't feel the need to compete with Phil Askey. I don't want to do what he does. But I did identify one thing that was missing on the Internet. That was very controlled and objective studio tests. That's what this is really about. The rest of the "test" is just a better way for me to organize the kind of stuff I would normally just post in the other forums.

I understand, makes more sense now.
Photo-John 04-08-2004, 06:13 PM But if people did find they appreciated what I'm doing more than some of the other sites, I wouldn't complain

I don't buy it.
I know for a fact that you desire no rewards for this site, you do it strictly out of the goodness of your heart and never ask for anything in return.
All you buddhists are the same, with your long hair and your tatoos and your crazy hippie thoughts....
Photo-John 04-08-2004, 08:25 PM Your best post ever.
