Well, our local high school football team just won their quarterfinal game of the playoffs. This means that the next game will be played in the very well-lit Georgia Dome, which will be a relief from the typical stadium lights I shoot under.

Anyways, heres a few of the pictures from the game. They were shot with a Pentax *ist DS equipped with a Sigma 70-200 f2.8 lens and Pentax AF-360FGZ flash.

All of the pics had these settings:
Shutter Speed - 1/250
Aperture - f3.5
ISO 1600

Y'all feel free to give me some tips and feedback. This is just my first year of DSLR shooting, so I could use all the comments and help I can get.

Thanks,
Alex

Great timing on that second shot there!

Curious, they play quarterfinals at the Georgia Dome? What about the rest of the games? We only have our finals at the RCA Dome....starting next Friday when class 1A and 2A play, then Saturday 3A, 4A and finally the 5A teams in the nightcap. I'll be shooting all 5, but the real big one for me is the 3A game as my old schools playing.

second shots good, but lose the other players. They contribute nothing to the photo. It'll look much better without them. Also, try lightening up the shadows.

Great work, Ironman. The second shot is amazing. Not only does it show your great timing, but wow, that reciever had them beat.

Contrary to what livin says, I think the other players in that second shot do add a lot. It turns the picture from just another amazing catch into a reciever who burned two covering DBs for a touchdown. I think that it tells more of a story about the particular play and possibly about the game.

If the safety wasn't in the way in the third one, I would recommend cropping that one down to just focus on the running back. You might be able to do that anyway, but you'll have to clone out part of his hand.

Thanks alot yall!

JS - In Georgia, the semi-finals are played in the GA Dome. The pics posted here are from our stadium in the quarters.

Livin4Lax - I would try cropping down to just the one reciever, but I shot the picture too wide. Its a bit too much to crop down to the reciever, and for it to still look great.

Masdog - I shoot for the football website for this team, so I try to shoot and show the whole team (the coach loves it when theres a pancake in the shot of the runningback, such as the one in the right of pic 3.) Therefore, I tend to shoot a little too wide. As I told Livin4Lax, the crop (of pic 3) wouldnt quite be high enough quality. Thanks for the comments though. I might try shooting a little closer, and really use the long end of my lens next week.

As I said before, thanks alot! These comments really help.
