View Full Version : Just wishin it was time for this again...
JSPhoto 11-13-2005, 09:40 PM Ok, doing some dreaming here....wishing I were doing one of these right now.
I guess I have the need for speed!
1: A bit of a tangle, but both cars continued on! Can anyone guess where this shot was taken?
2: Hmmm who's this? And where?
3: Eric Gordon at IRP in a USAC Silver Crown race 2004
4: A car in the pits during a demo derby that caught fire. The paper almost ran this shot but didn't have room. Instead they ran a shot of the drivers side front fender that had a "Danger Flammable" decal on it. Very appropriate considering it really did burn. The crew stuck it on the car just before heading to the derby, never expecting it to actually catch fire.

Photo-John 11-13-2005, 10:19 PM From the lights and the seats, I'm guessing the first shot was taken in the Colts stadium/dome. Sorry, I can't remember what it's called. I've been inside it a couple of times for tradeshows, though.
JSPhoto 11-14-2005, 05:44 AM Wow, good job Photo John! The RCA Dome! This was the only time sprint cars ever ran inside the dome. Pretty good race considering 800-900 hp cars on a very tight 1/4 track.

Photo-John 11-14-2005, 08:22 AM After I posted I started doubting. I was trying to picture cars inside that space. It might seem big for a football game. But I bet it seemed tiny with the sprint cars on the floor.
SmartWombat 11-14-2005, 12:51 PM Well now, before I scroll down ...
#1 is indoors from the lighting, but since it's in the USA I have no idea where.
#2 Tony Kanaan, Andretti Green Racing, can't place the track

Yes, and I'll admit it was a bit spooky too! Those cars were flying past us less than 6 inches away at times with a highway barrier between us and that just got too hairy! At one point one car almost went into the stands on the back stretch. They didn't return the next year, just too confining in there. Instead they had the 600's, smaller than a midget, with wings and a 600CC Yamaha motor...they flat out flew, and a few went up and over too. I'll have to dig some of those up.

Yup, you got it Paul, I figured you would get that one, but I thought you may get the track too, because of the sparks. It's Indy during practice...specifically coming off turn 4. A lot of cars did this during practice with full fuel loads until they fiigured things out. If I remember this was one of the days Tony had the fast lap, and may even be that lap. I'd have to check my notes.

steelerdirtfreak 11-19-2005, 10:06 PM Have you ever shot the Chili Bowl? I had been hoping to get there in Jan. for the next one, but it doesn't look like it is going to happen. I might be going to the Atlantic City Indoor race though.
Already looking forward to Feb. and East Bay!
JSPhoto 11-20-2005, 08:56 AM Nope, I haven't shot at the Chilli Bowl, but have friends who either shoot or race there. I was thinking of going East in Feb. myself for the Indoor race. I have shot the indoor races at the RCA Dome and Ft Wayne Colesium. Always fun racing at Ft Wayne! Do you have any contacts for the NJ race? I'm not sure if I know anyone involved in that one or not.

Hey, sorry, I forgot all about this thread.....
Anyway, I went thru Earl Krause of Area Auto Racing News - aarn.com
Oh, and it is Jan. 20 and 21 - http://www.aarn.com/ac-acirhome.html
JSPhoto 12-08-2005, 11:55 AM No problem SteelerDirtFreak,
I'm going to have to see if I have the funds & wheels for the trip. It would be fun to shoot though. I should find out when the midwest races are too. Maybe I'll do that tonight. Ft Wayne should be this month :)
