View Full Version : Show Me Your Sunsets...
Lava Lamp 11-08-2005, 05:39 AM I realized yesterday that the title of the board is "nature" and "wildlife." We're covering wildlife pretty good, I think, but what about nature shots that don't involve wildlife? I thought maybe we could share sunsets. This is one of the few I've taken that I like. Show us yours...
paulnj 11-08-2005, 06:05 AM Here is one from film that I took in Sedona from my deck :) Not a great file, but I assure you that is the true color/saturation of the sky.

All 3 different days (although every day is like that!), and no adjustments. Taken with a coolpix 5700 on A mode.
paulnj 11-08-2005, 12:27 PM I am obviously joking about the saturation, but it was only a little less saturated ;)
BTW.. That is 19mm on film and the hill is 2-3 miles away. It's really bad scan , but it's a sunset ;)
racingpinarello 11-08-2005, 02:10 PM My wide angle lenses don't do well for taking pictures of birds...but sunsets are good.
SmartWombat 11-08-2005, 02:33 PM I have only a few sunsets, anything here any good?
SmartWombat 11-08-2005, 02:43 PM Of course thre's always a bird and a sunset :)

Lava Lamp 11-09-2005, 03:45 PM Wow. These are all so good. Personally, I really like Wombat's car, WalterRick's San Francisco, and the two from Africa.
Any more out there?
OldSchool 11-10-2005, 08:58 AM This is a nice thread :^)

Wow, gosh almighty there have been some very nice images in this thread. I have heard it stated that every picture of a sunset is the same image, and in most cases I tend to agee. There isn't much creativity put into this subject. Most people think of sunsets in a P&S frame of mind, but I think the images in this thread show that it dosn't have to be that way.
Thanks for posting all of the awesome shot guys!
All I have are a copule of retreads, but what the hell...

SmartWombat 11-11-2005, 11:01 AM I'm thinking of blowing that up to poster size.
I took it with a smart car owners magazine cover in mind.
Never came to fruition :(
JSPhoto 11-11-2005, 01:48 PM Well I can't compete with whats here but here is one of my many sunsets. This one was just this week in my backyard through the trees looking southwest.
Now off to shoot girls basketball.....

schrackman 11-14-2005, 06:11 PM The first is a shot I took while vacationing in La Porte, Ca. The sun was just setting behind a mountaintop lined with trees.
JSPhoto 11-14-2005, 08:53 PM These shots were all taken within 1/2 hour and are straight out of the camera with no PS work. Within an hour we had a thunderstorm.

livin4lax09 11-14-2005, 09:09 PM thunderstorms make the BEST sunsets. I wish I had been at our house in Maine when there was a thunderstorm, but I had gone home early for a training thing for school. My parents took some snapshots, and the color was absolutely fantastic. I'll try to find them.

The colors on these are just strange though. Kind of makes you curious as to why they changed so much so quick. Only thing I can think of is dust ahead of the storm.

ChowChi-Ching 11-16-2005, 08:55 PM iamfunk,
Those are very beautiful sunset pictures, I have a question though with the one with the boat, How did you not get a sharp glare of light? Many of my pictures are ruined by the sun and I have a hard time capturing it like that? I would love to know some tips. Thanks

Real nice. I can't think of Puerto Vallarta without the "Loveboat" theme running though my head.

I know what you mean. Puerto Vallarta is very romantic and quite charming. Their port is usually full of cruise ships. I really love the place. The sunsets are remarkable as are the Mexican people.
paulnj 11-17-2005, 05:04 PM Ya know....
I always thought sunsets were mundane until I watched this thread grow!
GREAT IMAGES EVERYONE!
Lava Lamp 11-17-2005, 06:50 PM Took this today. Had to walk abck through the woods in the dark to get it. ;)

ChowChi-Ching 11-20-2005, 11:18 PM LOL, Paul, that was what I kind of liked about that picture. I found it very unique, hard telling what happened to it, it was in the middle of a wheat field.
masdog 11-21-2005, 12:33 AM These are two of my oldies but goodies. They were taken on the southern shore of Lake Winnebago in Fond du Lac this summer.
