Anybody know what Err 01 on the 1DmkII is? I was only getting it with the 70-200 f2.8L IS lens. Strange to get this now after 2-1/2 years of trouble free service with this lens.
The aperture reading kept saying 00, and the camera would hang with the mirror up until I turned off the camera. I checked and cleaned the contacts, checked the switches on the barrel, and I kept getting the intermittent hangups. I switched batteries, changed and formated the SD cards, all to no avail. I shot a bunch with the 28-70 f2.8L, no problems at all. I'm wondering if there is a short with the IS lens? Any input greatly appreciated.
I posted this link - but it's for err99......my mistake sorry.

Hi there..
I had the same problem with the same setup. It has to do with the lens contacts with the camera. When I took off the lens and put it back on it usually solved the problem. It's frustrating, but the error did go away once I did that.
I think the lens mount on 70-200 isn't that great, because it's very loose fitting on my other cameras too.

I wonder if the fit is compromised by the rubber seal breaking down after 2+ years of service. Seems like the lens is fitting quite tightly though. There's hardly any play in it at all as I checked it just now, and the rubber seal seems as soft and pliant as it was when new. I think I'll call up Canon tomorrow and run it by them. I found some links related to this error message, but in all those cases, the fault showed up almost immediately upon use of the lens, usually a few days. Mine occurred after over 2 years of work. I'd hate to have to send in the lens for repair as it is my work horse lens for 70% of my photos.

It's Ok Liz. Thanks for trying. I did find some links to Err 01, and the consensus is that this mishap that I'm currently experiencing seems exclusively limited to the 70-200 f2.8L IS lens. However, all the posts I've found had their occurences almost immediately upon use of the lens, not 2+ years later. The culprits according to what I've found, seems to be shoddy assembly of the lens itself, or an IS unit gone bad. I hope it's none of the above, but probably is. I really hate to have to send in my favorite lens, and my ultimate workhorse lens.
