I am looking to buy a dedicated Flash Gun for my A200 and would appreciate any advice.
The Minolta 3600 and 5600 are a bit expensive, has anyone tried the new SIGMA EF 500 DG ST yet. It appears to come in 2 versions - Standard and SUPER. Since the A200 does not do ADI or Wireless operation it seems like the 'standard' gun is the one to go for.

One Q though, on a Canon forum I stumbled across it was stated that the standard EF-500 DG ST does not do 'Rear Curtain Sync'. I thought this was a camera function not a flash gun one. Can anyone confirm that this gun will do Rear Curatin Sync on the A200

Hi A200...

I went ahead and spent the extra $$$ and got the 5600hs, for my A200, and I'm very pleased with it.

I'm going to go through my digital camera world magazines, I'm quite sure they did a side by side comparison at one time with the SIGMA EF 500 DG ST, I'll get back to you later if i find it

Hi eveyone - I Emailed SIGMA with my compatability Qs and their reply is : -

Dear Ron

Thank you for your email. We do not recommend that you use our EF500 ST or Super
with the A200 as they will not be fully compatible.

awe, sorry to hear of that reply, Ron..

Have you taken a look on ebay for the 3600, or 5600?... amazon has some decent pricing as well

I have the Minolta 2500 D which I use with my A200 and have found it able to meet my amateur demands. It is quite a bit cheaper than the 5600D and 3600D from Minolta. The range is not as great, and the settings are very few with this flash. It works best with Center Spot Focusing, and so far has been acceptable for my level of photography.

An old post but to bring it to everyone's attention, it is totally inaccurate. Either on the Minolta A200 or off the camera in slave mode, it works beautifully and the exposure is accurate.
