Cheers Pat another view 07-23-2005, 08:57 AM Hi and welcome! By film, I take it you mean the ISO speed of the film. Basically, one "stop" is either 1/2 or double the exposure of the next stop. The other two factors in exposure being equal, f5.6 is half the exposure of f4 but double that of f8. 1/125 is half the exposure of 1/60 but double that of 1/250. ISO400 is double the exposure of ISO200 but half that of ISO800. There are a lot of reasons you'd select a fast or slow film, wide or small aperture, or fast or slow shutter speed. It's all about the subject and the way you want to capture it. I'd recommend one of Kodak's books on basic photography - they should have good examples shown. Nothing beats throwing a roll of film in the camera and trying it out for yourself though! Very well written, in easy to understand terms.
