I think this photo you posted is good and can't find a whole lot to suggest, except it seems to me that you might want to concentrate on things like camera angles and the place ment of your subject int he frame before you mess around too much with sepia, etc. What you have here is a good solid portrait, but maybe not something that we'd come back to a second time. That may take a great expression, an unusual activity, highlighting something in detail (like eyes, which really aren't highlighted here), etc. Put it all together, and that's whay I think the other photo is the stronger one.

That's adorable! Very nice lighting, though it seems like it needs a teeny bit more contrast.
