I'm considering buying an SLR digital camera and want to know if my 35mm SLR lenses will work on it. If so, what capabilities will I lose with the lenses?

The answer is... maybe.:) It really depends on which brand and model of camera, and which series of lenses you want to use with it. If you can tell us the lenses you've got and what camera (or cameras) you're looking at, someone here should be able to help. ajuk 07-21-2005, 02:27 PM You probably will beable to use you old lenses, unless you are an Olypus user then you can get an adapeter for free, but you will need to take into acount the 1.6x focal lenth manification. This isn't magic its a crop. Franglais 07-22-2005, 04:03 AM I'm considering buying an SLR digital camera and want to know if my 35mm SLR lenses will work on it. If so, what capabilities will I lose with the lenses? Generally 35mm lenses fit on a SLR digital camera. On most cameras the view you get is more telephoto than it was on 35mm - multiply by a factor of 1.5 or 1.6 to find out what the 35mm equivalent is (i.e. a 50mm gives the view of a 75mm). You keep all the possibilities you had. However the performance of some lenses seems to be disappointing. If you have a top pro zoom film lens with special glass this seems to work fine whereas if you have a low-end independent manufacturer kit lens you may have some surprises. Even some prime lenses just don't work as well with digital as they do with film. Charles |
