View Full Version : Poll: how do you view these boards? opus 05-20-2005, 10:52 PM Please share with us how you usually browse the PhotographyREVIEW boards. :) jar_e 05-20-2005, 11:31 PM I check all the forums individually. I open up a new window for each forum, look at all the ones I haven't responded too, open those up in new windows, and start going through them:p Wow Jared that is quite a system. I may have to give it a go. Personally I tend to go through periods of mass posting that last a few weeks, then I may not post at all for a while, then just a few here and there, then I start over again. The whole cycle takes about 1 1/2-2 months from what I can tell. However, even when I am not post regularly I am always watching, reading, lurking around. Especially in DCG and the Galleries. Kieran 05-21-2005, 12:30 AM I'm just a lurker, but i browse the Critique, then Viewfinder, then the others, in that order. :D mjs1973 05-21-2005, 04:53 AM I hit the New Post button, and then go from there. First I look to see if there is any new posts to threads I started, or threads I posted in. Then I go back to the top and work my way threw the rest of them. My PC is pretty old, and pretty slow, so time is a big factor for me, and with the weather getting nicer out, I have become more of a browser, than a poster as of late. another view 05-21-2005, 07:08 AM and with the weather getting nicer out, I have become more of a browser, than a poster as of late. Hope that means you get out shooting too! :) I just go to the forums and read new threads (and threads with new responses). Simple but it works. I spend most of the time on VF and Help because I'm the moderator for those, but make it to the others when I can. Asylum Steve 05-21-2005, 08:46 AM Interesting thread, Kelly. As mod of Studio and Art Forums, I'm notified by email of any new threads in those forums. Otherwise I go to the Forum menu page, then manually check my favorite forums (VF, Digital Imaging, Web, and now of course, Off-Topic) to look for new posts. Once in a while I'll check the profile of friends or other interesting members I run across to see if they've posted recently, or some of my own posts to see if anyone has replied. walterick 05-21-2005, 08:49 AM Yeah I'm mostly like you Steve. I have Viewfinder in my favorites and I click on most of the threads that have new posts in them. I rarely get around to the other forums but when I do its fun! :) Oh, and I check my gallery for responses every few days, and look at all the new gallery posts every week or so. Rick jar_e 05-21-2005, 09:12 AM Wow Jared that is quite a system. I may have to give it a go. Almo, It works well for me. It clutters up my start bar, but it works well:p Lara 05-21-2005, 11:30 AM I voted, but forgot to post my preference. I mentioned it before another thread, but will post it here too. :) I always use the "New Posts" button. When I'm done, I "mark posts as read." Flight 05-21-2005, 02:25 PM I pretty much check out viewfinder, sometimes that's all. Many time I check viewfinder and when I read all the new posts or threads that I find interesting and I'll move to other forums when there is nothing happening in viewfinder. Chunk 05-21-2005, 03:43 PM My Shortcut brings me to the Critique forum. I like that the threads with new posts since my last logon are highlighted and that threads I've responded to are indicated. After working through the new threads and any others of those that I am interested in I check to see if there are any older posts with no responses yet and make sure to check them and see if I might have a critique for them. Lately there haven't been too many of those. :) Then I check out Viewfinder about the same way. I check out Help, Offbeat, and the Digital camera and Art forums about once every day or two - more often if I have answered something in them to see if the dialog continues. Now that I'm retired, I have to work naps into this routine as well. :) mtbbill 05-21-2005, 03:59 PM Please share with us how you usually browse the PhotographyREVIEW boards. :) I normally use a AMD 2700+ desktop computer with 512MB of ram with a broadband connection and Internet Explorer :p I hit the main discussion page and then browse through the rest of the forums. gahspidy 05-22-2005, 11:01 PM I'm alot like Chunk on this in that my shortcut is to the Critique forum ( as that has been a tremendous learning experience for me since starting) I also like that new threads are highlighted and threads I've posted to are indicated so i can check for responses. I've got a fine computer, but am still using dial-up ( waiting for DSL to run on the fiber optic cables used in my area. . .do not want cable) and using dial-up eats my time , so I usually do not get around to visiting the other forums. But I try to get to Viewfinder when I can to see whats going on with the other PR memebers. |
