let people have cameras?

I saw Michael Buble on Wednesday night. (Totally awesome concert, BTW!!!!!!! www.michaelbuble.com (http://www.michaelbuble.com) ) The tix said "no photography or recording". So, being the obedient girl I am, I left my camera at home.

Then, just after his second song, he says, "I know they said 'no flash photography allowed', but go ahead, you can take pictures!" And EVERYBODY whipped out cameras and shot pictures. He even came out into the crowd and posed with people! It was a blast, but I was SO frustrated that I didn't have my camera. And mostly because our seats were in the SECOND ROW!!!!!!!

So for the whole rest of his concert, I was watching him with a photographer's eye, and there were several times when I could have gotten such great shots of him! His stage was lit really well, with these big white sixties-shaped quadrilateral panels behind him, and he would stand there perfectly framed by them, backlit and all, and it was so wonderful and frustrating at the same time.


So how would one find out ahead of time if they could bring their cameras? Because I certainly don't want my camera confiscated!

Try calling the theater, areana, wherever they are performing, and see if someone can tell you. Most of the places I've been to don't mind cameras, just no recording - video or tapes.

It's just normal standard-issue regulations. You'd need a signed release to be able to legally sell the pictures and they won't give you that (in 99.99 percent of cases) although people sell them anyway - check ebay! I guess performers think we'll get rich selling prints even if we just want a few shots for our own use.:rolleyes:

I've never heard of something like what happened there and you probably won't get that lucky/unlucky again. Might have better luck at outdoor festivals with not-real big names - there's less restrictions at them in general. I've got nice shots from Spin Doctors, The Romantics, etc. in this situation. Lenny Kravitz at Summerfest would be a whole different world though...

Personally, I've never snuck a camera into a concert before - really! - but I'd probably bring a P&S and make sure to turn the flash off (won't do anything other than get the attention of security).

it'susually no flash photography! that is tough anyway at concerts when you are far back but in the second row would have been awesome! I took some at the jason mraz concert without flash and they werent' as nice or sharp as I would have liked them to be - but I was in the back row!

yeah it's strange - growing up, they would search us, and if we had a camera, you'd have to "check" it, and you'd get it on the way out. one night, though, i managed to sneak my 35mm into a simple minds concert and got right up front, and jim kerr played to the camera all night. it was complete brilliant! in ncy, though, they seem to not bother with the cameras - at least not my stylus. i got some cool shots of gary newman a few years ago at irving plaza with my stylus. go figure! i think these days it's hard to enforce "no cameras" with half the world having a camera phone (ring ring ring ring ring ring ring, camera phone....) i mean - the pope's viewing is a perfect example. it's ever-so-hard to enforce these days.

i feel your pain, though. i could have gotten my picture taken with/of savion glover last night! but i didn't bring my camera - my date neglected to tell me that we were the press and that i could've brought my camera. oh well!

Bad luck Kelly. But, probably better to be a legalistic person then try to break it. You win some you lose some, but I think it's better to follow the rules:p
