    Coming to the UK

Battery recycling is on the way.
We don't take recycling as seriously as Germany ... yet

You know, I used to be really into recycling until we got a nasty letter from the city telling us they'd appreciate it in the future if we seperated paper, shiny paper, cardboard, shiny cardboard, phone books, and everything else into seperate bins, along with a bunch of other instructions about removing caps from glass bottles and so forth, and suggesting we buy all these bins from them at a cost of $15.00 ea. Now I just set out one bin and they can sort the friggin' trash themselves :arf:

Thankfully California has finally got on board with the rest of our lazy country. They have one big blue rollout, the same size as the trash bin. They only request that you don't throw the plastic grocery bags in there. I used to sort everything and take it in for cash, but it just wasn't worth it! Very though provoking shot Paul! We can't throw our batteries in the trash but they don't offer us an easy alternative?

There's a lot of discussion over the word "removable" because of the batteries built into things like electric toothbrushes where they are not designed for customer access or replacement.

Also the definition of the "producer" of a battery, where companies in the UK are branding batteries manufactured in China - who is the producer under this law?

Meanwhile the requirement for shops to collect and recycle batteries for free is making high street shops caution about implementing the European Directive in UK law.
