    wildlife day!

well I walked out the door this afternoon on my way to work and heard an owl in the trees. so I was scanning the tree line to see if I could spot the guy, and when I looked down I stopped dead in my tracks. There were two moose walking about 25 feet in front of me, right down our driveway. They seemed completely unfazed by me, and just kept on walking. looked like a male and female pair. I went inside and grabbed my camera, and had time to snap one photo off. Unfortunately, I forgot to change my settings, so it was basically black. I followed them a bit but then spooked them and they went running off into the woods. Too bad, I wanted to get a couple good shots of them. On my way home from work I stopped and helped a turtle across the road, him being scared to death of all the traffic going flying over and past him. Not entirely sure what kind, but at this point it seemed to be a wood turtle, very rare. here's the boosted photo of the moose, I just think it's cool. This was at 280mm, not cropped. It was about half this distance from me at the point i first saw it. The other one (the male) is in front of it, just out of the frame.

I think I would be a pretty horrible wildlife photographer. I can't be stealthy enough...

Wow, quite a day! I've driven many miles in areas where moose are known to be, but have yet to see one in the wild. It's amazing how much wildlife you can see even close to a city but this was an exceptionally lucky day. Kudos for helping the disoriented turtle!

weird thing to add to this. I was in Marlborough, MA this weekend shooting a hockey tournament and stopped by the mall to grab a bite to eat. I parked in the lower level of a 2 story parking "garage" and got out of the car, looked up, and saw..an owl? Yeah...it was strange. An owl just sitting there hooting on the ceiling of a parking garage.
