    Sunrise on 8-26-12

I wish I could do justice to the sunrise I watched this morning. Just when I thought I witnessed the best one I have seen another one tops it. It must be a getting old thing.

Beautiful shot, Greg. You do so well with the lighting. I love the way you captured the sun to light up the rest of the image - perfectly!

Nice to see such a lovely shot with the OMD.

Purty! Looks so much more exotic than I would expect of Georgia. Thanks for sharing (and getting up before dawn), Greg

Thanks all. Liz this was actually taken with a D800 I had the opportunity to babysit.

Oh nice! How did you like the D800? Did you use it enough to feel comfortable writing a review? We could use some more D800 reviews

Well John so far I am a bit overwhelmed by it. It is very complicated compared to the a850. I can not see any more detail in the pictures at lower ISOs compared to the a850 but consider I use a Carl Zeiss on the Sony. I do see improved dynamic range. I still need an ND grad when shooting I wouldn't say the DR is off the map better.
I am using the 17-35mm and 85mm 1.8 and either I don't have the AF set up or it just hunts in low light. The Sony a850 smokes it there.
I haven't pushed it past 6400iso but it is simply amazing at high iso. The 36 mpix files sucks the life out of my computer as well. I wouldn't want one if I owned a business and shot 1000's of pictures.
It is not my D800 yet but I have access to it almost anytime I want to use it. I may not be the person to review it because there are many, many features I doubt I will ever use.
But I will certainly give my thoughts when I get a few more outings with it. So far I still prefer my Sony's.
My plan is this. My wife wants us to start shooting portraits as a side business. I was going to dedicate the a850 for that and use the D800 as more of a landscape camera. I have all the flashes and remotes for the a850 plus it's just easier to use and I don't want to go out and charge for pictures and struggle with a camera.
I was hoping the D800 would give me the DR I needed without filters. As of now I still need ND grads but only one or two stops.
My kids usually wind up getting my m4/3rd stuff...lol Funny how that works.

Yes Ed I really like my Sony cameras. I wish the high ISO performance was a couple of stops better. But you can't have it all I suppose.
