Picomize, a new type of Stock Photography

    Hey there,
My name is Brittany Dembowski and I am currently working on my BFA in Photography as well as working on a new type of stock photography website.
Ad Agencies use us to find high quality photographs by serious photographers. Agencies will post a challenge to our website, asking for a specific type of photograph. What we do is find those photographers and tell them they could be paid (whatever amount) for their photographs. However, anyone can join the site! It is free and easy to use and that way when challenges are posted that you know you have a photograph for you can easily submit it and have a chance to be that much closer to getting your photography and name out there.

I am looking here for some ideas and photographers input on stock photography websites in general, and hoping that some of you will come check out the website!

    Thank You!

Do you have any idea what the pricing will be like? Is it going to be like microstock or more realistic? That probably depends on the agency, right? I don't believe microstock is a sustainable business model for anyone but the microstock Web sites. I also believe it's contributing to the devaluation of professional photography.

Unfortunately it depends upon the Agency. The minimum amount we are accepting is $1,000 from an agency. Because in reality, photographers with quality work aren't going to allow their work to be used as advertisements for under that. Being a photographer myself I told the people I work with that it needs to be worth the photographers while to upload the picture.

Its different than other stock photography sites because it is not like anyone else can use it. The agency will have that specific photograph for themselves and no one else can purchase it.

There is also different pricing for each way of advertising... print, online, etc.

Sounds good. I've always been suspicious of microstock and over the last couple of years I've noticed a lot of photographers are starting to feel like I do. We can't expect professional quality work for so little money. It sounds like your company is doing things the right way. Thanks for telling us about it - and thanks for also participating on the forums and not just spamming them
