Jersey Shore - new G9 camera

A few of us went to the Jersey Shore yesterday - it was a gorgeous day and perfect to try out the new G9 (I was debating between the S5 and G7 - then the G9 arrived). Straight out of camera - no post processing. I'm pleased with the camera....these are the first "tests."

    Wonderful!

You've got a couple of winners in there, Liz. I like the one of all the people on the pier and one of the fence in the sand is a great abstract. Looks like the G9 has very nice dynamic range and contrast. I can see the foam on the waves it blowing out a bit. but that's no big deal and I think the same thing would happen with a DSLR. If you want to hold the foam you just need to shoot dark and do some post-processing to hold the detail.

Can you post a couple full-res files in the gallery and link to them so we can get a closer look at the image quality? I'd like to see the image of the fence and sand at 100%.

You should post something in the Canon forum, too.

    Thanks!

Beautiful Liz!! That Cannon G9 looks like a winner and I know you'll have no back problems with it. I like everyone of them but the fence is my favorite as well. I sure hope you'll be post a lot more pictures now that the G9 is a member of your family.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Re: Wonderful!

    Thanks John,

I did upload 3 images (at least I thought I did). However, I couldn't find them after the uploading finished. I asked for help in the Help forum.

Here is the link to the Sand Fence in my gallery to view full resolution. When you get to the gallery - click on the image there for larger/full resolution.

Please let me know what you see - I don't really understand how to "read" the images at full resolution. Thanks.

ETA - I'll upload more later.

The fence is the winner and one can pick out a lot of detail in the large image. They're all good shots.

Thanks Larry. Actually after trying out the S5 and G7, the G9 seems to be the winner! I really like this camera. The fence is my favorite too. The XTi is still my main camera, but it's nice to have something light weight that does a decent job (in good light).

Thanks Steve! The sand fence seems to be the best of the bunch. The lighting was on my side on Sunday!

Thanks for the comments. Yes, they are right out of the camera. On one shot (the lady on the bench) I did a small increase in contrast only. All the rest were out of camera, no post processing.

This is a gem of a camera. I tried a few p&s cameras, but being a dslr person (XTi) and enjoying those nice Canon lenses, I was not happy with them. However, the G9 fits the bill.......nice compliment to the XTi.

    Liz
