There is some kind of light artifact in this picture.

Can anybody tell me the exact name of the phenomenon? Is it called lens flare?

From your file name I don't even need to look at the picture.
I did anyway - that's lens flare.

Use a lens hood to block out the sun, or use a longer zoom so the sun isn't in the picture.

It's one thing that annoys me with the 14-42 lens on my Olympus E-P1, there is no mount for a lens hood.

There are two analyses of this picture.

I'm a little embarrassed to ask this question but I've been told on the thread I posted in my last post that the pointed object on the right of this picture is smoke and that there is a 757 in the middle of the picture emitting the smoke.

I've been told that the shadow of the 757 can't be seen because of the angle of the camera.

I'm posting this thread on that forum right now. Does anyone have time to respond to this-silly as it is?
