The Fab Four

My wife and I went for a drive Saturday and we came upon these four kids jumping their bikes in Tujunga Canyon. These were mostly shot for fun so they're not all that technically sound (composition, unwanted elements, etc). However, I was disappointed to realize that my camera was set to 200 ISO, hence the hot areas in some of the photos. I HATE when I do that. The kids still liked the photos (what do kids know anyway? LOL) and wanted prints so I'm gonna send them each 4x6s.

Dear Ray,

If this is what you are like on your off days, WHAT ARE YOU LIKE ON YOUR ON DAYS? You take a mean photo even when you're handicapped. But that just goes to show you that it is the photographer, and not the camera that makes the photo. Great job!

Hey Drew,

lol, thanks! But the only one I'm actually pleased with is the one with the girl on the bike. Maybe they'll ask me to come out again once they get their photos in the mail, and then I can properly set up some shots. As it was these were just taken at the spur of the moment when my wife and I stopped to check out the flood damage to the road (see below) and I happened to see them from a distance. If you look to the left of this photo, you can barely see the kids on their bikes.

That flood picture is crazy. I like the incorporation of the hazard tape. It really adds to its effect. I also really like the one of the girl on the bike. I like the depth of field and its simplicity.

By the way, what camera setup were you using?

Yeah, there was some major flooding here in L.A. Some canyon roads will take about 3 months before they get back to normal as they were completely washed out along with their bridges.

I used a Canon DRebel w/ my Sigma AF 28-80 mini zoom macro lens for the flood shot. For the kids on bikes I switched to my Sigma 70-300mm lens.
