    Newbie-ness

    Hello everyone -

I stumbled across this forum looking for info on Minolta DImage Z1's. I'll be checking out the equipment forum for sure, but I thought it best I say Hello first.

I live in upstate NY, I'm definitely a beginner - I've been point and shooting for a long time, and I'd love to learn about the more technical and esoteric workings of photography.

Favorite things to capture are the great outdoors from landscapes to macro (I'm really just another dirty gardener) and dogs. I run a Large Breed Meetup Group and always have plenty of subjects.

    Cheers!
    Kim

    Hello Kim,
Very nice works...and welcome to PR. In my personal opinion, it's the best photography site on the web. If you are looking to improve, everyone here is always very willing to help you. We have several specific areas for different types of critiques. The viewfinder forum is basically just a nice gathering place for all of us to share our pictures and our lives. There is also the the various "help" forums for everything from general info to specific subjects. Of course there is Critique Forum, which gets a little more in depth and critical of your photography. But don't be scared to post there as everyone is there to help.
It looks to me as though you have a very nice start on your photography. Thank you for sharing these. Please begin posting many more. FYI, I began with a p/s Kodak. About a year ago, I stepped up to a DSLR and the fine people here at PR have been my mentors and have taught me most of what I know. Please feel free to ask us anything as we will always try to help.
Keep up the great work and I look forward to seeing many more.

    Ken

    Thanks for the welcome Ken!
Gotta love Kodaks. My first digital was a Kodak, we bought in Germany.
It's still a good little camera, but I can't find the USB cord, so it's kaput for now.
I am definitely looking to improve, so I'll be around for sure.

Hi. Love the first shot. Doesn't seem to be much there at first and then I keep finding subtleties.
    I'm a learner too.

Thank you Frog - it was one of those frigid days - windchill -10 or something. Something just said - hey, lets go to the lake...that was the best of a whole bunch from last weekend.

    Thanks for the welcome

Where's the best place to put pics of dogs?
It's one of my constants - I live less than a block away from a BIG dog park - there's always someone and something to try and capture.

    Hi Kim! Welcome!

You're probably in the best forum for dog shots. You might also try nature and wildlife, but I think they tend to go for the wilder breeds over there

    Gallery

There's a Pets and Animals gallery category. You can use keywords in the gallery, too. That's how I made my custom Lela Gallery

If you upload an image to the post in this forum (or any other forum here) there is a checked box for adding the image to your gallery. You can uncheck it, which might be a good idea if you're just putting up a shot to explain a point. Your gallery link is right by your name in a post. Click on anybody's gallery to see some images (admitting I haven't done anything to organize what I've done...).
