    New York take 2
As it stands I am coming by myself...and bringing two prints for everyone (since I suck and couldn't get my life together enough to mail them till march ---so since we are getting together I figured I'd wait. But anyway..

    Who's coming ?

    What are we seeing?

    Where's dinner?

    When are we getting together?

How many prints to get together? (other than the ones for Penny/Gene, Danielle, Gerry, Rick, and Megan)

I'm coming into Penn station from New Haven,CT so I just need to know how early Saturday (or friday if need be) I need to get my train ticket for. I'm still undecide as to wether I'm staying overnight in the big city.....

    see ya soon....

    the three hour boat tour
should provide some wonderful photo ops of me vomiting over the edge of the boat

I get severely motion sick on anything that floats
so I will take my Dramamine and then try to stay awake- other wise THAT will provide another photo op of me passed out on the deck

Gee it sounds like fun- lol

A three our tour---makes me think of Gilligan's Island. Can I be Mary Anne?

you and Gene can be the Howell's :D

Well we'll see what happens. When are you guys scheduled to come in to NY?

Nat, and the Amazing Technicolor Dreampost...
I'll have to remember one of these times to use some of these great colors at our disposal. I guess I still think mostly in b&w... :D

I'd love to meet for dinner, but I'm not sure if that's possible yet. We're doing disaster recovery testing that weekend and we have the site booked for 48 hours starting at 4:00am on the 23rd. Yuck.

We usually get out by 3:00 pm on Saturday, but I'm sure that since I would like to go someplace, this year will be an exception. So basically I won't know if I can make it until that afternoon.

I'll bring along a few ballgowns [did she REALLY bring that many outfits with her for a 3-hour tour?!] and be Ginger. Which of the 7 deadly sins is she?

Anyway - I will be there. I just realized, though I can't make dinner on the 24th [stop throwing things at me] because waaaaaaay back a few months ago, Reg got tickets to his favorite band for us. I just asked him when the concert is, and it's the 24th. Fortunately, I think it's a Madison Square Garden. Actually, depending on what time dinner is, I still might be able to make it if it's earlier, rather than later. Don't plan around me, though. I will take part in everything else though!

    Gene - a reminder
"It might be a good idea if we ALL go to B&H and get the "shopping" done and over with first thing."

    Gene,
Just a reminder - I hope you mean getting the shopping done first thing early Friday or "Sunday" since B&H closes at 1:00 on Friday - reopens 10:00 a.m. Sunday.

I hope you and Penny have a wonderful time. I'm hoping to get there for something at some time during the weekend. ;)

    The Professor checking in!
Let's see... so much to cover!

John - yes, we've been talking about this for months. Where have you been (or on WHICH consumerreview site? Hmmmmm? :p ) <b>Please sticky this thread for us.</b>

New York posse: let' start discussing things to do for Saturday. I am not the kind to <i>have to</i> have a plan but it couldn't hurt to have an outline, considering we may be many.

    Things I've heard and liked:
    <b>Ferry Boat
    Lady Liberty
ICP (insane clown posse just for Paul :) no really Internation Center for Photography
</b>What else? I'm liking the idea of... <i>just seeing what's going on</i> that weekend and just being surprised.

    My personal schedule:
I'm staying with my mom on Long Island, she's gonna be setting up a new Michael's Crafts store far far away from New York it's supposed to be about 1 1/2 hours out.

I am arriving alone on Friday night, or day depending on when I get off work. Andrea is going to be in Taos that weekend. Taos... New York... Taos... New York... I'm sure which I'd choose either ;)

I will be hanging out with mama on Sunday doing the Long Island winery thing :)

    Saturday is all <i>ours.</i>

Dinner at John's sounds fine. I'm sure we could round up a few prostitutes to keep Steve and Paul amused ;) What time? I guess I can make reservations ahead.

    What else should we discuss?

Oh, yeah. The weather will be fine.

OH YEAH! I have a new idea for a print exchange!
What if we all wait until we get our NY pics back and then we choose our best shot and make a copy for everyone? That way we have a "scrap book" of photos from our New York trip together each one taken by a different member.

Hey, they don't call me The Professor for nothin'

    Just a thought.

    Steve who? Me?
"I'm sure we could round up a few prostitutes to keep Steve and Paul amused..."

If you're refering to me, Rick, then I think you're a bit out of the loop, too. I ain't gonna be there. But I appreciate the thought... :D

BTW, if you wanna picture me with a pro, just image the scene form Arthur:

"Are you a HOOKER? And I thought I was doing really well with you..."

BTW2, my bday is the 24th, so be sure to have a drink on me, or for me, or whatever...

BTW3, where's your mom's store? Sounds like somewhere around Patchogue. Am I close?

    Yee professor
That sounds like a swell idea! Can't wait to see everyone....:D

the modern take of the theme song---

Just sit right back and you'll hear a tale, a tale of a photo trip, That started from this eastern port, aboard this tiny ship. The mate was a mighty sailin' man, the "birdman" brave and sure. Eight passengers set sail that day for a three hour tour. A BandH tour.

Mrs. Howell started getting rough, her credit cards got maxed...
She still had shopping she had to do...and not a lot of cash. And not a lot of cash.

The birdman had to walk the streets, shooting birds and bums

    with Michelle,
    and Walterick.
A natural man and his wife,
    a Holga chick,
    a self portraitist,
    at the second Gatheriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnng.

I won't quit my day job!

Is there room for one more?
I'm just getting wind of this NYC gathering. I live local to NYC and was wondering if I might join in for the boat ride. I haven't been to a gathering and am not a very steady contributor to the site, but if there are no objections, I would love an opportunity to meet some of you and get out and snap some pics. If this is ok, let me know where and when the meet is.

    Thanks,

    Yes, you :)
I seem to remember you and Paul going back and forth about shooting prostitutes - er their picture that is - so I thought I'd throw one in the mix to keep you guys happy. :)

    I knew you weren't coming.

But an extra prostitute can't hurt anything.

What say, gang? A stein for Steve?

pps She's working in a town near Brookhaven, I think?

    How cute...
She puts a picture of Marianne as her avatar and suddenly she's a song writer :)

I'll buy a copy of the single when it comes out.

I remember last NY gathering when I wrote a NY song to the tune of "Off to See the Wizard." I'm glad to see the tradition has continued ;)

    Water and Orange Juice.
Orange juice to fight the buggies and water to flush 'em out.

I told someone "water and orange juice" once and she went home and mixed water and orange juice together (!)

I hope you guys are better! We'll sweat it outa ya by running around the city all day :)

Are we doing the traditional photo exchange as well?
I thought we were leaning towards a post-gathering exchange of shots we took during the gathering, so we can all have a taste of the trip through different peoples' lenses. But I can do the other one too if that's what we decide.

    LET'S DECIDE!

I would also say 10, but...
I'm wondering will everyone be in town by then? Perhaps 1:30 (though more crowded?) may be the better bet (and warmer). Just a thought. Let's all chime in on this.

    Yes, it went...
"Weeeee're OFF to see the city,
    The wonderful City of York
If ever a wonderful City there was,
    It's York because because because
    Because Because Because Because Because.....
Because of the wondeful things it does
(bum da da dum da da dum da dum)
We're off to see the City!
    The wonderful City of York!"

    You think?
Actually, most photographers would consider the 10am light better than the 1:30. But that's your style, hey work it girl! :p

I think I'll email Megan soon if she doesn't pop here soon.

Are you guys interested in a traditional print exchange in addition to the post-gathering one? I'd say probably not both..

You haven't seen what "here" looks like with all of OUR lenses turned on it! ;)

But, I can see how a bunch of other people's pictures of NY would seem less than exciting to you. Maybe we can compromise? How 'bout a standard photo exchange AND an after-photo exchange? I'm sure there's a way to make everyone feel yummy.
