    The New Jersey

Also known as the Big J or Black Dragon, but her real name is the USS New Jersey, designated BB-62 and was one of several Iowa Class fast battleships. She served for 21 years in the United States Navy, providing the ultimate in raw naval firepower (She could throw a broadside of 24,300 pounds from her nine 16" Mk. VII guns, to compare, the HMS Victory at the Battle of Trafalgar could throw an 888 pound broadside from 35 guns). She served in the Second World War, Korea, Vietnam War, the Lebanese Civil War, and service in the Persian Gulf just before the Gulf War of 1991. Decommissioned in 1991 she began service in 2001 as a museum ship located at the waterfront in Camden NJ, just upstream from where she was built. One thing that comes to mind when I first saw her, was man, she is BIG.
