Got my gallery up and running ... what do y'all think?

Well, I guess the title says it all. Got a "pro" account at Smugmug and have spent the last couple weeks uploading pics (both old and new) and customizing it. Would love to hear your opinions.

Looks good to me Doc. I keep mine at Zenfolio. I can store full size images and sell them straight off of the site. If I ever have a HD failure my pictures are safe with them.

Thanks, Greg. A pro account at Smugmug lets you sell prints directly as well. Not that people are knocking down my doors to buy. But I'm planning on going to some festivals and outdoor markets in the coming months so maybe that will change. Slightly.

    Hopefully?

    Some nice stuff there.
I think you need to update your profile as I you've moved beyond the 'beginner' stage.
Of course, we're all beginners, now that I think of it.

Ha, thanks ... I guess I never filled that stuff in, as I also don't use a point-and-shoot. It's all good, though; I wouldn't want to classify myself.

Looks good! I didn't know you could use your own domain name with Smugmug, have to check that out myself as I figure out to do with my own domain name... One comment, I'd get rid of the gallery dates. They say February 2008 but I'm guessing they weren't all shot then; that was when they were uploaded. Maybe they're just defaults, but by getting rid of them you could have shots spanning years, without having people think they're all from a certain time.

The host name feature is awesome, and definitely one of the selling points.

As for the dates, I only have dates on specific events/trips in the bike section, and under recent additions. All the shots in a gallery with a date were actually taken in that month. But under the l.a. landscape galleries, like downtown, santa monica, etc., all the pictures are thrown in together and just have dates on the captions.

I meant to PM you the other day... the gallery looks great! Really nice job.

I'm actually tossing around the idea of moving over to smugmug myself. I don't have the time to do the grunt work of maintaining a site and flickr is just weak in many respects.

    Thanks, Ken. A lot.

I used to like Flickr a lot, but that was before I saw a lot of other gallery sites. I like love all the customizing you can do with smugmug, and I think as far as user experience, it's right up there with the best of them.

    Hahaha. Thanks a lot, Gary.

    P.S.
I never settled 100% on a crop of that shot, so I left it as is. Makes it easier for printing, that's for sure.
