    In the Mood

These past couple months have seen me travel further than I have ever before. Originally the trip was to just go for a week to be a part of the 200th anniversary reenactment of the Battle of Waterloo in Belgium, then I realized that there wouldn't be any point to just going for a week, so I took another two weeks off of work and picked several cities around France, Belgium, and the Netherlands to explore. My first stop was Arras in the Pais-de-Calis region of France. Site of the Battle of Arras in 1917 during World War One which was, along with the Battle of Vimy Ridge a distraction to draw German attention away from the French Neville Offensive. The battle saw the town nearly destroyed, but in the 1920s it was rebuilt to match how it looked before, this time out of brick and stone rather than wood. It rained for most of the day...but that's why I packed Tri-X.

Nice shots Alex! I love b&w photography.....you did a great job. Thanks for posting - I don't see much of b&w around anywhere.....but I don't really go anywhere online except dpreview (besides checking in here).

I enjoyed viewing these shots. My favorite is the first one - and next would be the last one.

    Re: In the Mood

Nice shots, they do remind me of my years in N. Europe (my Army days). The black and white was a bold choice; it's amazing how hardly anyone shoots film anymore. I did think more die hards and hobbyists would be out there w/ it but they are just so rare. I recently read a book on Napoleon, quite interesting .. the French armies pretty much dominated western Europe for a time, much like the Germans did in WW2 until things turned against them.

    Re: In the Mood

Thank you all! I much prefer shooting film over digital. It keeps me away (for the most part) from a computer, allows me almost complete control over the image. I plan on getting these into the darkroom next weekend and making some proper prints! Plan on printing the fourth one in the set in 11x14.
