    Air show 07

Here are a few from the weekend. Saturday started off cloudy but the sun snuck through a couple times and then stayed out....once I headed off to shoot the two football games. It was a fun weekend and the paper ran one of my Kentucky ANG C130 shots fairly large on the front page. It was a fun, but very busy weekend!

Nice shots and looks like you had a lot of fun. Air shows are fun. I love that shot of the wall of fire.

Thanks Toot, I wish I had changed lenses for the fire shot, but I was also shooting crowd shots for the paper and swung around just in time to get this.

Good catch. Your timing was great on the smoke clouds. Normally I have had my camera ready, but get involved in watching it, I forgot to take the picture. Were you close enough to get the heat blast from it?

Yes, and I wasn't ready for that! :blush2: I was really caught off guard by the blast of heat. It was just far enough away that only the first few rows could feel the heat. On Saturday I didn't feel it at all, which is partly what got me on Sunday.

I guess I am so used to shooting I forget everything else and focus on the shot and not watching to watch. Of course part of that may be the fact that missing a shot may hurt the wallet too, and after missing some money shots you learn not to miss them.

Nicer weather than we had here earlier this month. Also we had a small private V-tail bonanza 'crash land' on teh runway right before the show. Main gear on the right collapsed on landing. No one hurt other than the plane itself. First thing that came to mind was the show was gonna get cancelled unless the FAA gets there to sign off so they can move the plane.

We had no aircraft accidents, but we did have the Tiger Tank backfire injuring the guy manning the canon. It happened just after the show on Saturday. They flew him to the hospital and the ATF took control of the tank.but he wasn't hurt too bad as the news announced it was minot injuries.... and I bet one was a concussion though.
Man there was more FAA here than an FAA convention.

Thanks everyone, it was a fun weekend, and the paper seemed to like what I did as they ran 3 on the front page... a first for me (number wise) and 5 counting the two football preview shots also from Saturday.

    Re: Air show 07

Just a little info on shot #2. This is a replica of the very first aircraft in the Army built in 1911. At that time it had a 35hp motor. This particulr plane normally spends it's time at the Air Force Museum in Dayton Ohio but occasionally they take it to air shows around the world. and it does fly. The design was done by drafting students at the Dayton Public Schools, which I thought was pretty cool. This version was built using more modern pieces and doesn't have piano wire holding it together. Due to that it has a larger motor and it goes a whole 60mph. When it took off for it's demonstration flight they didn't land, they flew to Dayton

Nice shots JS. I've never seen the Cobra helicopter team perform. Looks like you had a great time!

I've never seen Cobra's flying formation or using smoke. Cool effect. Fat Albert doing his short field landing was also cool. You got a great capture with the wall of fire as well.

Yup, the smoke worked out well even with the clouds, it actually works better I think. Fat Albert was amazing when it landed, in two football fields it was stopped and backing up. At one point coming down though it looked like it was going nose first into the runway.
