    Unhappy Lost!!!!!!

:cryin: Very sad day!!!! I am no longer a member of the Nikon camp!!!! Sometime within the past 2 weeks, my Nikon Coolpix 8400 has come up missing along with the 2gb Lexar Pro card!!!!:mad2:

I think it possibly got thrown out in one of the buckets of papers that collect each week around here. I have occasionally set it in the bucket when going in a store before coming home so that it wouldn't be visible. We usually go thru these buckets to seperate the papers we keep through the next week, but it's the only scenario I can come up with.

We were getting ready to go shoot the oil refinery explosion in Big Spring, TX when we discovered it missing. Well, instead of shooting the refinery, I spent the afternoon going through the dumpsters since they hadn't been dumped all weekend, they were pretty full.

Only saving point is...IT WAS INSURED!!!

Moral...If you don't have your equipment insured, do it TODAY!! There are many ways...mine was on a rider on my homeowners policy!!!! It wasn't expensive and now it was worth every penny!!!!!!!!!!!

So, although I really liked my CP8400, it gives me an opportunity to get something newer...maybe a K20D!!!!!!

    Re: Lost!!!!!!

Sorry to hear that Ken. I lost a 1GB Lexar card over the weekend that I searched high and low for. Since we had all four grandsons at our house this weekend I figured one of them had eaten it or something nearly as absurd. Once they left I did one final search and came up with it pushed in behind the computer monitor. I was very glad to find it since it was brand new and had never even been in a camera.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Opportunity!

Even though the Coolpix 8400 was a neat camera, and it's a drag to lose anything like that, this is reallly an opportunity. That's especially true since it was insured. Plus, almost any current camera you buy is going to have better image quality and better high ISO performance. So I'm psyched for you! You're going to come out of this with a much better camera. The question is, should you invest in another compact or buy a better DSLR? That's a tough question and one to be considered carefully. I really like having a good pocket camera as well as an SLR. They serve two different purposes and aren't interchangable. So what's it gonna be?

Sorry to hear about your lost camera Ken. From what I have read, the 8400 was a great camera for digiscoping. I'm sure you will come up with something great to purchase with the insurance $.

    Re: Lost!!!!!!

Thanx all...and Frog...at the time I hide the cameras...they are not trash as I carry about a weeks worth of papers that I throw when other carriers have missed their customers...This can total up to 175 or more papers a week...and sometimes I need as many as 2 weeks worth of papers when someone has been on vacation and the carrier has forgotten to keep them. In that case I hope the office has the other week and frequently they don't...
As for future camera purchase....hmmm...K20D....I'm thinking but with the move coming up...Kim has already told me...new camera purchase...only after we have completed the move, gotten a new apt. and she's gotten a new job that pays the bills. Cuz my SS check only goes a little way!!!! hehe
again thanx for all the comments...very well appreciated...I was definitely bummed cuz I really liked the camera...and Chunk took a lot of time teaching me how to use it...hehe

    Re: Lost!!!!!!

Insurance check arrived over the weekend. Somehow though, it just doesn't seem to make up for the loss. I actually made a couple of extra bucks on the deal. Oh well...K20D????? Should make me feel much better!!!!

Brian...thanx for the site...I haven't checked it out yet...but do plan on it. I read something about it here on the site yesterday. Sounds like a good idea. I hope it catches on and people start paying attention to it.

Rylans Thanx for the sympathy...it was a real bummer, plus I missed a great shoot searching for the camera.
