Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
I'll be driving through downtown (and Hollywood) before I make specific announcements on locations. Places to park our cars in dowtown is very important to know and can not be researched online as far as I know. I'll have to scope it out first. Please stand by for official itinerary.
Thanks! This will be great.

Loren, did you put us on the list for Carlito's?
Looking forward to this!

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Alan (kafin8ed) said he could make it. Not sure if he's planning on dinner or not. Also, I pm'ed Ray (Shrackman) and he's trying to make it too. Hopefully we'll hear from those guys if they're planning on dinner.
Boy, at this rate this photogathering is going to be one of the largest ever! I guess we were due! :)
Great idea Eric!

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
I just read up on the NEW YORK Photogathering last year. Nice shots and looks like they enjoyed themselves.
RICK, TAKE YOUR VITAMINS!
Just making sure :D
New York Photogathering
Luckily for them, New York is a walk and train/subway kinda town. In Los Angeles, we walk from our car to our office and back again OR we walk from our car to our homes and back again. There will be driving and lots of money spent on parking.
FYI, after the second leg of downtown we will take the 101 north to Hollywood and park ourselves at Hollywood and Highland (home of Mann Chinese Theater and the Oscars). When we get Starbucks at that location, we will then get our parking validated.
Just felt like mentioning. Everything will be spelled out in the official itinerary.

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Wow, how did I ever miss the pictures from the New York gathering?!?! What a great bunch of shots. Liz had some beautiful shots of animals, Seb with his architectural images, and Mig with her lensbaby tulips. And all the others were top notch as well. I'm hopeful this outing will produce some equally fine images of L.A.! And hopefully I'll be able to participate too.
-
Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Wow, I had completely forgotten about that gathering. That I didn't attend. I set the whole thing up, got everyone excited about it, and then got the flu or something. Bummer.
Eric, we've had at least 3 New York Gatherings. This one was pretty small in comparison. If you keep digging back, you might be able to find the other 2.
I actually went to those :)

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Since we are talking about quality photos from other gatherings, shall we do a print exchange for our LA Photogathering?
Ray, Claudia, Gene, Penny and I did one at the Yosemite Gathering a few years back and I enjoyed it. I even left one for a fisherman that gave me a couple locally brewed ales he wanted me to try.
If we decide to do an exchange, we need to decide soon so we can all select our shots and make prints.

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Brian, please elaborate. Not really sure how this works. I so give someone pictures and I get free beer? Does that include Coronas? :)
-
Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Hehheh. Trading prints for beers is a new concept for photogatherings :)
We also did a print exchange at one of the NY gatherings. Basically, you bring one print for each member who is coming to the gathering. Then, you trade, and you receive one print from everyone there. So you go home with a picture from everyone.
My only problem with doing print exchanges is the cost :yikes: $8/print x 10 members adds up. But, I'm sure we can work something out if we all want to go that route.

I think the Print for Beer Exchange was a once-in-a-lifetime event.
As for the Print Exchange, Rick summed it up nicely.. We each bring a set of photos (one or two for each site member) to give to the other attendees. The photos you choose to share is up to you (and they don't have to all be the same), the only qualifier is that they have to be something you shot. The size of the prints are up to you as well, though I'd recommend that the smallest you go is a 5x7.
Rick, I hadn't even though about how many will be attending. Perhaps we could do a random drawing to see who will trade with whom.. This will drastically reduce the cost and we will all receive something nice from at least one of our peers.
I'm open for other suggestions as well.

I like this idea. With the amount of people that are planning to attend this makes it simple, affordable, and still a lot of fun. Especially if I'm there. :-)

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
My thoughts on the photo exchange:
I like the idea personally. Some have raised concerns on cost since this might be the largest photogathering group to date. Is it? Anyway, I suggest printing only 5x7s for each member to exchange to keep cost down.
We are still meeting at 9AM in downtown Saturday but I need to scope out the place to find a Starbucks and a good place to park. The official itinerary will be avail in August, I promise.

I wont be coming guys. I live on the other side of the country :(

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
The BBQ is still on and as for the photo exchange, I thought we were going to pick names at random and just give one print to the person who's name was picked for you. I'd be happy to do the name selection and post it here once the roster is finalized.
In other words, everyone needs to make ONE print (minimum of 5x7) so they can give it to their appointed recipient. Names will be chosen at a later date.
Is it time for the gathering yet?

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Hello everyone. It's almost that time. I was at downtown last Sunday for mass at the relatively new Catholic church over there. We then ate in Chinatown. I'll be driving through downtown tomorrow after work to get our final plans down. I don't think we will incorporate Chinatown in anyway. I'd like to figure Union Station and Olvera Street into the plan.
Is eating mexican food for lunch ok with everyone interested? Or should I locate a place with more of a domestic taste? There are some classic truly retro diners that we might like.
I found a map online that may help with our downtown excursion:
http://www.ladowntownnews.com/dtvg/map.pdf
The second half of our plans are easy. We will drive to Hollywood and park at Hollywood and Highland (Next to Mann's Chinese Theater), take a coffee break at Starbucks and get our parking validated. We will then walk Hollywood Bvld. until it is time to eat at West Hollywood by 8PM.
Once I'm done with the plans, I'll convert it to PDF format and PM everyone a link to the file that showed interested in the gathering. I'll also email it if your email is available.
Looking forward to August 19th!!

Food
I think we should eat in the market next to the Million Dollar Theater. There's got to be something for everyone in there. And I am sure there are good tacos!

Ok, good idea, I'll look for it tomorrow. Our first run is on Broadway after all. We can have lunch right after shooting Broadway then drive to another downtown location before heading out to Hollywood.

I'm glad you mentioned that.. I kept meaning to suggest adding Olivera St to our itenerary, but always managet to forget.
Also, I'd appreciate it if those planning to come to my place Friday night could RSVP so I can get an idea of how many I'll be cooking for. Also, please post your preference between steak or chicken.
I've given some thought to doing a taco bar. If that's the case, I'll have pork (carnitas style), chicken and carne asada along with all the fixings. If anyone out there can make a good flan, please feel free to bring dessert. :)
Two more weeks...

Re: Los Angeles Photogathering! August 19th
Hello,
Sorry I haven't completed the official agenda for next Saturday. It should be done next week. One of the minor problems is that there is no convenient Starbucks in downtown. If we met in Starbucks within downtown then we would have to pay for parking then moved to another parking area to start Broadway blvd. I'm trying to minimize paid parking to just two locations within downtown. Don't worry. I'll figure it out. Again, the Hollywood leg of the day is no problem at all.
By now, many of you who were not sure about attending might know by now. Please give an official 'yes' or 'no' soon.
For those of you taking up Brian on his Friday offer, please kindly let him know.
Brian also needs to know the official head count to arrange the photo exchange.
Tonight, I'll be heading out to Palm Springs for a funeral and then to Sin City for a previously planned family gathering. I won't be online unless the hotel room has an Internet connection for our laptop.
See you all soon.
Eric

The Mountain Bike Post
Gotta get a ride in. Who wants to play? Who rides? I know there are a couple of you. Kafin8ed would be in but he done busted his arm at Whistler.
I've got a singlespeed and a freeride bike. I figure Santa Monicas or San Gabriels, since those are the most central for most LA residents.
