    Book Review

I picked up a new book from Amazon.com called The Moment It Clicks by Joe McNally. I was impressed by what I found between the covers of this book. Simple but very nicely written book, there is lots of information and it is interesting enough that you won't put it down until your finished. I bought for $32.99 from amazon.com, the normal sticker on this bad boy was $54.00.

Joe McNally covers everything from lighting, equipment, location, and how to be different. He uses some of the most interesting techniques to get the perfect once in a life time shot. I know I will keep this book close by for future reference. For anyone looking to improve their photography skills this book is a must have.

Turn off that television and pick up a book!

Some reviewer says if you're an outdoor, natural light photographer, then this book does nothing for you. Do you think you would agree to that?

    Re: Book Review

I have this book on my "list" since finding out about it a couple of weeks ago. My only complaint is that it's only in paperback - I'd pay a little more to get a book like that in hardcover. Minor complaint, though.

Joe McNally is really known for complex lighting setups and very "planned" shots outside of a studio. He's the one who has done a lot of Nikon's instructional videos for their Speedlites, and he can really show what is possible with them. I can't think of a whole lot of his shots that aren't lit either with a pile of Speedlites or studio gear but at least the Speedlites are very portable. I'm afraid that if I buy the book, another SB800 or two will mysteriously show up on my doorstep!

I wouldn't expect much along the lines of outdoor/natural light, but maybe a different way of thinking about those types of shots.

This guy (Joe McNally) is a strobe junkie but I am looking to buy a few strobes and learn lighting. I am shooting another Wedding April the 8th and Prom for a group of 120 special needs children.

I thought it was absolutely fantastic... I didn't get a change to read it, till I was heading to bed... well next thing it's 4am, and my g/f is saying put it down and go to sleep.

I've really enjoyed it. It's got a lot of interesting things on how he set things up and some of the interesting things that happened along the way.

I did the amazon thing too, though did the free shipping option, and it didn't even get shipped till about 11 days later (that kinda rotted me off, hindsight I should payed the extra little bit to get it sooner.)

I'd highly recommend it. If the technical information isn't helpful, the stories are very entertaining, and if your not into stories, then the photos are just great to look at.
    Cheers,
    Greg

This book has been on my list for some time now too, but I haven't yet made the purchase. Joe has a blog that's pretty interesting as well and I've been reading his posts. You can find it at http://www.joemcnally.com/blog/. He certainly makes some beautiful pictures.
