Liz posted this link yesterday too in thread for Speed. A pretty interesting lens. It would be fun to give this thing a test drive, but I would have to sell my house, and live in my truck to get one.

There was another giant lens I saw a while back too, but I don't remember who made it. That one looked more like a blimp than a lens. I will have to see if I can find it.

A bit off - topic - question....

Strange. I clicked on Speed's name on Mike's post above wondering why his name became a link - well, the website belongs to the "Slowsky's." Anyone know how a word like speed links to a personal website? I can understand "camera" or "photo" being a link - but why Speed - and linked to a website not related to race cars or other "speed" activities. BTW it's not a link on the quote on this post - only on the original by Mike.

Liz, that sounds weird but I do not see it happening in my browser. Not surprising that the word/name "Speed" would pop up the window, but to link to a personal website is strange.

As impressive as this lens is, I think it would be immensly impractical for shooting wildlife. By the time the photographer sets up the engine hoist and positions the lens into place the subject is gone. Unless you sit there all day and wait for something to happen to stroll by . . .

It would take three or four men to mount the sucker. My guess is, he has a permanent mount (steel or concrete) in his backyard which overlooks a marsh, sound, meadow, valley, some type of location with premium viewing conditions and abundant wildlife.

Amateur astonomers with really large telescopes build miniture observatories in their backyards, with permanent mounts for their telescopes. I'm guessing this guy has a similar setup.

Which begs the question - why didn't he just buy a telescope? It would have been cheaper, quicker and much more practical. Obviously he has the money to buy what he wants, but was he buying his way into the Guiness Book Of World Records as well?

I agree Gary. You would almost have to have it permanently mounted someplace. At least the Canon lens is a little more manageable.

Okay - this is strange - it is no longer a link for me either......here is what I got previously. I actually tried it 3 times earlier today before I posted the information - so know it worked. When I got it earlier the word "speed" was green with 2 lines under it. Go figure!

Actually - I googled "speed" and "slowsky's" together and discovered slowsky's are actually an ad for Comcast - looks like they words like "speed" as links for advertising. Probably a pop-up type thing.
