    Re: Oldest Church in Oregon

Boy, I thought churches in Oregon went farther back than 1972.

But seriously, what does it date to? And what kind of church is it? Many of our Missionary Baptist churches were actually started in Oregon (as well as Washington and California) in the mid 1800s as they came out west from the northern and southern parts of the east coast. Most of the time the church planted would consist of a single family and would have to rely on a circuit preacher until a pastor was finally available. If I had lived in the west back then, I probably would have been one of them circuit preachers myself.

Great pic! I love old church pics, especially with this kind of architecture. Maybe you can return there one day and get a better shot.

I don't know the date but it's before the civil war, 1861 or earilier. The chuch was moved to it's current spot back when I was a child 1950s or 60's. I have to take one afternoon just taking photos around town but the gas keeps going up.
