So I got published with credit at last...

I've been shooting for the yearbook and other school publications without real photo credits for 4 years. Now that I'm in College, it's a whole different ball game.

So in Tuesday's Florida Alligator (the independent newspaper here at UF) I had two photos make the paper! Not bad considering I started with them on Friday and Tuesday's was the first issue since then

One of the photos was from outside our first Football game, during the pregame hype- a little kid getting his face painted with the most serious, "we're gonna kill Western Kentucky" look you can imagine. Since this was just a feature photo, it didn't go online, but the other one, my first assignment (a mere 7 hours after I met with the editor), went online too!

You can see that one here.

And this is only the beginning. I will be shooting for them regularly now!

    Well, considering...

...you're using inferior equipment at one of the lamest colleges in the country, you didn't do too bad!

Heh, heh! As a Canon freak who went to Florida State, I simply had to jab you about that...

Seriously, great start for you. Being on assignment and deadline for a large publication like that should be a good learning experience...

    Congratulations!!!

I can relate to the "at last" part. I've had several of my photo's used in the local paper and on websites without any recognition. When it finally comes, it is very gratifying.

Okay the paper uses a freaky system where things get archived by the next day, but I'll be posting the photos themselves shortly.

Yes, the equipment was most definitely inferior. I shot the online pic with my Canon 1D mark III at ISO 3200 with the 35/1.4L at f/1.8 1/50s.

Unfortunately my Mark III has been in for repair 3 times for focus issues, and I'm currently lobbying for a replacement as my 2 assignments thus far have proven that it is not to be trusted. Even in good light the AF is spotty at best even with the lenses it was calibrated with, and in anything where I need to use at least ISO 1600 f/2.5 to get a shutter speed of above 1/80s or so, I'm better off just activating Live View and manually focusing.

Nice job Harrison, can't wait to see the pictures, since as mentioned, the link is wiped out. Got to shoot a bunch of corporate mug shots today with more to follow on Tuesday. Get to tape the S and K show for tomorrow for Monday's parents night, lucky us.

    I'm very proud of you.
