    My first author shot....

Our Chamber is doing a short story on John Steinbacher, a local author who also works here in Banning at the national headquarters for the Cancer Federation. I shot this photo in his office. Although I wanted to shoot him in the garden area of the Cancer Federation building, he's quite a large man and I didn't want him to have to make the trip all the way downstairs and outside. Utilized natural windowlight, 50mm lens at f/2.8, converted to b&w but we will probably use the color version for our newsletter.

The Cancer Federation is also going to publish on the cover of their magazine a photo I took last year of Banning. I'll try to post that here a little later on today.

I also got an autographed copy of his book, so now I have something new to read.

Nice portrait Ray. Did you do any PS work to lose the background? I can just barely see something, so was wondering.

Great use of natural light though.

Good job Ray! Take a picture of the published circulation with your photo on it. It's always nice to see the end result.

    Thanks Troy and Eric!

Troy, yes I had to burn some unsightly elements out of the background. I will probably do a bit more to get it completely out. This was just a quick touch up.

Eric, I'll do that! Then post it here. Won't be for another couple weeks, however.

By the way, I'm posting off a pc here at work. What a difference between it and my eMac. This is a new computer and monitor, and it doesn't even compare to my Mac.

BTW, here's a bio of John. Didn't realize how extensive of a background he has. http://www.cancerfed.com/JohnS.htm

Here's the picture of Banning that John liked. It first ran in the Record Gazette and also in our Chamber newsletter last year, which is where he saw it. The photo should come out on the Spring issue of their magazine. We'll see how well their designer handles the photo.
